Meziříčí: Discover history and landscape
Accommodation in Meziříčí
Meziříčí brings together local history, sacred buildings and a landscape suited to walks and cycling. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can first consider whether historic buildings, religious events or outdoor activities are your main focus. The town’s distinctive features offer concrete points of reference for these interests.
Local history and sacred architecture
The name Meziříčí derives from its geographical location between the two local watercourses, Vlásenický and Pilský. Meziříčí was first mentioned in writing in 1379. Two sacred buildings offer further points of reference in time: the Chapel of St. Anne is a faithful replica of its predecessor from 1846; at the entrance to the town stands a pillar-shaped wayside shrine from 1853. The chapel thus follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, while the wayside shrine has a different architectural form, with its pillar shape. Meziříčí also has a brick bell tower.
Meziříčský chateau and traces of the past
The “Meziříčský chateau” is a simple, rectangular, single-storey building. It faces the courtyard with a tympanum. A tympanum is a field in a gable; in Meziříčí, this feature faces the courtyard. Oskar Nedbal, Karel Hašler, Eduard Kohout and Karel Weis visited the Meziříčský chateau.
As of June 2026, the “Meziříčský chateau” and its park were in a neglected state. Check their condition before visiting, as it may change. Another trace of the town’s history is the former brewery: it has been completely demolished, and only small remnants of walls can be seen among the trees and shrubs. Thus, a described building and the few remains of a former business represent different kinds of architectural evidence of the town.
Religious events and cultural life
May devotions are regularly held in the Chapel of St. Anne, and a Mass is celebrated there on St. Anne’s Day. In the past, on St. Mark’s Day, a procession went from Dražice along the state road to the wayside shrine in Meziříčí. The regular chapel services and the former procession offer two different points of reference in time: recurring religious events and a historical tradition.
The MexWave association supports a youth music group originally called Mexická vlna. The association organizes performances by the group and cultural events to support its activities. If you would like to plan your trip around a devotion, Mass or event, check in advance whether one is scheduled during your travel dates.
Hlinkovák pond and the landscape
Hlinkovák pond in Meziříčí was revitalized in 2019 and 2020; the completed project was approved on 17 December 2020. The landscape around Meziříčí is suitable for cycling and walks. This gives you different options when planning your trip: buildings and historical connections to the town on the one hand, and activities in the landscape on the other. When weighing these interests in choosing your hotel, it may also be important whether a particular religious or cultural event will shape your stay.
