Lutová lies in a gently rolling landscape in the southeastern part of the Třeboň Basin. Two distinct themes shape the description of the village: around the elongated village green, farmsteads, religious buildings and historical landmarks take center stage. The Mikuláš Ruthard educational trail, by contrast, focuses on the ponds and old fruit varieties in the surrounding area.

Village Green and Village Character

Three-part farmsteads, with their gables facing the green, are arranged around Lutová’s elongated village green. The gable ends face the green. Alongside this recurring architectural form, a niche chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from the mid-19th century, stands on the village green. The farmsteads and chapel create different points of interest: the layout of multi-part farmyards on the one hand, and a single building dedicated to a particular saint on the other.

The masonry buildings in Lutová date from around the turn of the 20th century. Their simple, minimally decorated appearance is linked to the rebuilding that followed the great fire of 1875. The fire is therefore an important historical reference point for the village’s present-day character. Lutová has been designated a village conservation area since 1990.

All Saints’ Church and Historical Landmarks

All Saints’ Church stands on a rise northwest of the village green and is Lutová’s most prominent visual landmark. It was founded by the Vítkovci in 1359 and is originally Gothic. In 1615 it was remodeled in the Late Renaissance style; the church received its tower in 1875. These dates mark different phases of construction: the founding, later remodeling and construction of the tower can be distinguished chronologically.

Remains of a Stations of the Cross dating from the second half of the 18th century can be seen in the cemetery next to the church. This period falls after the 1615 remodeling and before the tower was built in 1875. The remains thus add another religious landmark from a distinct period to the church’s history.

Pond Landscape and Routes

The Mikuláš Ruthard educational trail runs from the dam of Hejtman Pond along the red-marked route, passing Nový Hospodář and Starý Hospodář ponds on its way to Lutová. Its route is defined by its starting point, two named ponds and its destination. If you are planning to walk the trail, check local route conditions in advance.

The educational trail explores the natural riches of the ponds and also covers old fruit varieties grown in the Lutová area. The pond landscape and fruit growing are therefore distinct themes along the trail. Lutová also lies in Zone III of the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area and within the Třeboňsko Bird Protection Area. These protected-area designations complement the specific pond names by placing the landscape in context.

Cycling routes 1010, 1011 and 1035 meet on the village green. Two different details can help you find your way: for the educational trail, the route and the ponds along it are specified; for the cycling routes, their shared meeting point on the green is given. Check the current route markings and local conditions before planning your journey.
