Kuřimany is an interesting destination if you would like to explore village history and the landscape. When looking for a hotel in Kuřimany, these themes can help shape the character of your stay. For planning, historic buildings and roadside crosses come together with a landscape of hills, a stream, and woodland; there is also a cycling route and local hiking trails. This lets you decide in advance whether local history, relaxation in the countryside, or getting active in the surrounding area is more important to your stay.

Landscape and Relaxation

Kuřimany lies below Kuřimanský vrch, which is 586 metres high. The stated elevation refers to the mountain. The Třešovický potok flows through Kuřimany. The mountain and the watercourse offer different perspectives on the landscape: the former represents the elevation above the village, while the latter flows through Kuřimany. The woodland south and west of the village offers good opportunities for recreation. When planning, you can decide whether the ridge, the stream, or the opportunities for recreation in the woods are your main priority.

Village History and Wayside Markers

The first written mention of Kuřimany dates from 1327. In the village square stands the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, with a Baroque gable; it was built at the beginning of the 19th century. The dates therefore refer to two different historical points: 1327 marks the first written mention of the village, while the beginning of the 19th century marks the construction of the chapel. This makes it possible to distinguish the history of the village from the history of the building. The Baroque gable is the chapel’s clearly identified architectural feature.

A cross stands at the crossroads towards Paračov and Milejovice; a wayside shrine and a spring are nearby. There are also roadside crosses along the roads towards Třešovice and Paračov. The chapel is therefore in the village centre, while other religious markers are located at crossroads and along roads. Two burial mounds have been discovered near Kuřimany. The village’s sacred architecture, religious wayside markers, and archaeological finds in the surrounding area thus offer different historical perspectives.

Cycling Route, Hiking Trails, and Bus

Cycling route 1070 passes through the cadastral area of Kuřimany. There are local hiking trails in the surrounding area. For a cycling trip, check the current signage and route conditions; for the hiking trails, current waymarking is important. These notes therefore relate to different planning questions: the route and condition of a cycling route on the one hand, and the marking of local trails on the other.

Buses run along Class III roads; Kuřimany has a bus stop with a connection to Strakonice. Check the current timetable before travelling so you can factor the connection into your route planning.
