Jickovice: Stream, Cycling Route and Chapels
Accommodation in Jickovice
A stream and a cycling route run through Jickovice, while its religious buildings point to different historical periods. These themes give you several concrete ways to get to know the place: through its watercourse, cycling routes or local chapels.
Stream and protected trees
The Jickovický potok flows through Jickovice and empties into the Orlík Reservoir south of the village. In its lower course, it is also called the Sobědražský potok. Both names therefore refer to sections of the same stream; the change of name helps distinguish the local names when finding your way around. Jickovice is near the reservoir, while the point where the stream enters it marks a specific location along its course, south of the village. Another natural feature is the Jickovické lípy: this protected group of trees was first placed under protection on October 3, 2008. The stream and the trees give the landscape different points of interest: a watercourse running through the village and a protected group of trees with a precisely dated protection date.
Cycling route and views near Varta
Cycling Route 1155 passes through Jickovice and runs from Orlík nad Vltavou to Kučeř. It also connects Route 31 with Cycling Route 1154. The endpoints and connections offer two different ways to find your bearings: the place names show which points the route runs between, while the route numbers identify its links to other cycling routes. The “Kde domov můj” tour continues through Jickovice to the settlement of Varta, where there is a viewpoint overlooking Zvíkov. The route details complement one another but answer different questions: Route 1155 is defined by its course and network connections, while “Kde domov můj” describes the continuation from Jickovice to Varta.
The Varta viewpoint is a few metres from the red-marked hiking trail at Varta, near Jickovice. It is situated on a rock above the Orlík Reservoir and offers a view of Zvíkov Castle.
Chapels and pilgrimage
The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in Jickovice. It was built in 1883–1884 and consecrated in 1890. Outside the village, on the right-hand side of the road towards Strážka, stands a Baroque chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, dating from the 18th century. The buildings differ both in how their locations are described and in their historical dating: for the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the construction period and year of consecration are specified; the other chapel is dated by its Baroque style and century. The combination of the construction period and year of consecration also shows two distinct stages in the history of the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Another point of interest is the pilgrimage in Jickovice. It takes place every year on the Sunday after August 15. For your travel planning, this means following a recurring rule rather than a fixed calendar date: the relevant day is the Sunday after August 15. If you are planning a trip around the pilgrimage, you can work out the date for the relevant year using this rule.
