Dobev: Chapels, Church and Historic Stone Bridge

Church and Chapels in Stará Dobev

The nave of the Church of St. Brikcí in Stará Dobev is now decorated with Late Baroque ornamental paintings. The interior design is therefore the main focus. By contrast, the chapels’ locations within the village and their architectural details shape their impression.

The niche chapel of the Holy Trinity is listed as a cultural heritage site in Stará Dobev. It stands at the junction at the end of the village, where the road towards Kestřany meets a field path towards Dobevský rybník. A yellow-marked hiking trail passes the chapel. The marker provides a specific reference point; check the route locally before setting out.

The niche chapel of St. John of Nepomuk in the cemetery wall is also listed as a cultural heritage site in Stará Dobev. It is located in the southern perimeter wall and can be accessed from the south, from the road. The chapel dates from 1851. In the niche stands a statue of the saint, smaller than life-size, on a stone pedestal with a base; a low, decorative wrought-iron grille closes off the niche. In contrast to the nave’s ornamental paintings, the figurative decoration in the niche provides a different architectural accent.

Stone Bridge and Local History

In the western part of Stará Dobev, road bridge No. 139-004 stands on the Písek–Strakonice road. The stone bridge spans the Brložský potok with two arches. Its construction differs markedly from the religious buildings: here, the stone, the arches and the stream define the setting. The bridge and the cross have been protected as monuments since 3 May 1958.

The former school building is also part of the village’s history. In 2024, it housed the Dobev municipal office and the municipal library. This information refers to 2024; if its current use matters for your plans, check before making a special visit.

Getting Around the Municipality

Road II/139 is another reference point when planning your visit to the municipality of Dobev: it runs through the municipality from Písek to Strakonice. Stašov campsite, in the municipality, is another accommodation option. It is located 2 km north of the municipality of Dobev, among forests by Stašov Pond.
