When planning a trip to Bošice, nature and culture are both worth considering. The nature trail begins and ends on the southern edge of the village, the Keltská naučná stezka is 27 kilometres long, and the nature monument and rotunda are highlights of Mářský vrch. The trail’s design, its length and its historical connections offer various points to consider when planning your stay.

Nature Trail and Landscape on Mářský vrch

The Naučná stezka jeřábka Bošíka nature trail begins and ends on the southern edge of Bošice, on the slope of Mářský vrch. It was designed for younger children and features interactive play elements at every station. After the walk, an open pavilion (altán) is available for a rest.

The landscape also reflects the area’s natural character: the trail passes through naturally grown woodland. The trees and shrubs that have sprung up there provide a habitat for many interesting plants and animals. Both the interactive stations and the vegetation are part of what makes the trail distinctive.

Mářský vrch is a protected nature monument with a sea of stones. At its summit stands the Rotunda of St. Wenceslas, built in 1935; a Stations of the Cross trail on Mářský vrch leads to it. Here, the geological landscape and its protected status can be appreciated alongside the religious cultural heritage represented by the rotunda and the Stations of the Cross.

Routes with Different Profiles

The Keltská naučná stezka is 27 kilometres long and has six stations. They are located in Kubova Huť, Boubín, Buk and on Mářský vrch, as well as in Lčovice, which has two stations. One section of the Keltská stezka leads from Bošice towards Zálezel and Malenice.

Different features are important when choosing a route: the Bošík nature trail focuses on its circular route and interactive games at every station, while the Keltská stezka is defined by its 27-kilometre length and six stations. You can weigh up the route design and distance according to your own plans.

Archaeology and Historic Traces

The Věnec archaeological site was inhabited in the Late Hallstatt period and the La Tène period. The Věnec cultural monument lies about two kilometres east of Budilov. For travellers interested in archaeology, Věnec combines a historical context with a specific location.

A historic route ran through the area of the later municipality of Bošice. It led from Kunžvart, now Strážný on the national border, via Horní Vltavice, Pravětín, Trhonín and Láz. Further along, the route passed through Svatá Maří, Pržmo or Věnec, Zlešice and Volyně.

A charter issued by Queen Eliška Přemyslovna on 11 August 1314 mentions Bošice and the Brdo forest in connection with the royal district of Volyně. The historical records highlight different aspects: a route through the area of the later municipality, and a dated reference to Bošice together with Brdo.
