Čečelovice: Hills, Ponds and Rock Legends
Accommodation in Čečelovice
You can get to know Čečelovice through its distinctive landscape features, local legends and connections to cycling. When planning your hotel and trip, it helps to distinguish between these interests: Žďárka and Kočičí kamna offer views and rock formations, while the ponds are characteristic of the Blatensko landscape. The Pětnice lookout tower is an additional destination in the wider region.
Hills, Rocks and Pond Landscapes
The 582-metre-high Žďárka Hill lies southeast of Čečelovice. From there, you can look out over the landscapes of Strakonicko and Horažďovicko, as well as north towards Blatensko. On the summit is a group of large boulders known as Kočičí kamna. Several local legends are associated with this rocky site. Here, a named place brings together a viewpoint, distinctive rock formations and local lore.
There are also many ponds in and around Čečelovice; they are characteristic of the wider Blatensko area. This brings different landscape features together: a single hill with its group of rocks, and a pond landscape that is typical of the wider region. If you are planning your stay around landscape experiences, this distinction between a specific viewpoint and a regionally characteristic landscape feature can be helpful.
Cycling Route and Views from the Shelter
The Turistický přístřešek is located in the southern part of Čečelovice, near Cycling Route 1064. From there, you can see across large parts of the Šumava. Information boards identify the surrounding hills and places. The cycling route, viewpoint and information about named landscape features all come together here. Check the condition of the shelter locally before your visit; the information boards may also not always be available.
The Čečelovický Drsoň duathlon is another local sporting event. The 2024 edition included a 3 km running course and a 20 km cycling circuit. These distances describe that specific edition; course details may change in future editions.
