Vyprachtice: Architectural History, Landscape and Winter Sports
Accommodation in Vyprachtice
Vyprachtice combines architectural history and monuments with a hilly landscape and seasonal winter sports. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, these differences can help you choose when to travel and what to focus on. Would you mainly like to explore the buildings, plan hiking routes or consider a winter activity?
Historic Traces and Buildings
The first written mention of Vyprachtice dates from 1304. It appears in a deed of donation from King Wenceslas II to Zbraslav Monastery. This means the village is documented in writing as early as the 14th century.
The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord (Kostel Proměněnà Páně) is a prominent landmark of Vyprachtice and the surrounding landscape. The Empire-style church was built from 1815 to 1817 on the site of an older structure. A tower dating from the 15th to 16th century remains from this predecessor. The church therefore brings together two distinct periods of construction: the older tower and the early 19th-century church.
The Holy Trinity Column dates from 1863. Another monument, with a different design, is a Neo-Gothic cast-iron cross. Its design combines industrially produced cast iron with stone carving. The cross stands on a stone pedestal whose reliefs depict Saint Anthony of Padua and the Instruments of the Passion of Christ.
The war memorial in the village center commemorates local people who fell in both world wars. It stands below a slope at a road junction. At the edge of Vyprachtice, at the entrance to the Sázava Valley, a fortress stood in the Middle Ages at the site known as Na zámku. Archaeological investigations confirmed the former structure.
Hilly Landscape and Trails
Vyprachtice lies at elevations ranging from 510 to 875 meters. The hilly landscape includes some steep climbs, and several hiking trails cross it. This offers a different focus from visiting individual buildings: on walks through the landscape, changes in elevation shape the surroundings.
The Moravská Sázava rises at the foot of Buková hora and flows on from Vyprachtice into Moravia. The Naučná stezka Údolà Moravské Sázavy educational trail runs through a wooded section of the valley between Albrechtice and Vyprachtice. As trail conditions can change, it is best to check the current state of the trail before setting out on a specific hike.
Seasonal Winter Sports
In the upper part of Vyprachtice, below Na Hoblovně mountain, lies the small Ski areál Ovaz Merta ski center. Winter sports there are seasonal. The Buková hora – Suchý vrch cross-country skiing area has an access point at the saddle between Vyprachtice and Čenkovice. Access and grooming depend on snow conditions; check these before planning a cross-country skiing trip.
For your winter plans, the options differ in terms of activity and access: the small ski center in the upper part of the village, and the cross-country skiing area with access at the saddle. Snow conditions are particularly relevant when planning cross-country skiing.
