Rudná: Hiking Trails and Local History
Accommodation in Rudná
Hiking and Route Details
A marked red hiking trail leads from Březová nad Svitavou railway station via Rudná to Hřebeč. The route is 19.14 kilometres long and rated as moderately difficult. If you choose this trail for your trip, check before setting out that the markings are up to date. This gives you specific details for planning: starting point, destination, length and difficulty level.
The Českomoravská stezka offers a different perspective. This long-distance hiking trail follows the high Hřebečovský ridge to Rudná, then descends into the Svitava valley. The two routes can be distinguished by different features: the red hiking trail has a stated length and difficulty level, while the long-distance route is characterised by its ridge and descent.
History and Historic Buildings
The first documented mention of Horní Rudná dates from 17 January 1365. The village appears in a Latin document entered in the Moravian land tables in Brno. Rudná’s oldest surviving name also reveals a specific historical detail: Rudná was called Ruden; the name derives from “rudka”, meaning red clay. Thus, a dated written record and a linguistic trace sit side by side—two different ways of exploring the history of the village.
The historic fire station in Dolní Rudná was built in 1925 and is one of the sights in the municipality of Rudná. There is a cross by the Chapel of Saints John and Paul in Rudná. According to tradition, the chapel in Dolní Rudná is dedicated to Saints John and Paul; it is adorned with seven 19th-century memorial crosses bearing the names of their donors. The donors’ names add a personal connection to the dating of the crosses.
Leisure Areas in Rudná
On the outskirts of Rudná, towards the source of the Chrastovský potok, there is a multifunctional children’s playground in a park-like setting with benches. If you plan to visit, check the facilities on site.
Rudná also has a football sports complex. In summer, it was used mainly for sporting activities for young people; children’s days were held there, and football and volleyball were also played. If you are planning to use the sports area during your visit, check in advance whether it is currently open to the public.
A fire-water reservoir lies along the course of the Chrastovský potok and is also used as an ice rink and outdoor swimming pool. For specific planning, check its current recreational use and water conditions. This way, you can take both the current use and the conditions on site into account when making your decision.
