Discover Pastviny
Accommodation in Pastviny
Pastviny lies in the Mladkovská Highlands, the lowest part of the Eagle Mountains. The Green Route, the Vejdovy lime trees and several historic structures offer concrete points of reference when planning a stay. This lets you decide based on your interests whether cycling, nature or local history should be a particular focus of your trip.
Landscape and Natural Heritage
The memorial lime trees known as the Vejdovy lime trees stand in Pastviny near the U Vejdů farmstead. One of the trees is estimated to be 850 years old. This age estimate applies to a single tree, not to the group as a whole. Together with the location near U Vejdů, this gives you a precise place to find this natural heritage.
Exploring the Green Route
The Green Route starts at the Pastviny Tourist Information Centre and passes through the Zemská brána area and its surroundings. It is classified as a moderately difficult cycling route. It runs entirely on paved roads through a recreational area with increased motor vehicle traffic. The road surface and traffic conditions are two separate aspects of route planning: the moderately difficult rating describes the route, while the motor vehicle traffic warning concerns the roads it follows.
Where the Green Route runs parallel to a hiking trail, pedestrians have priority. Traffic conditions may change, so check them before setting out. If you would like to check timetables or tourist services in advance, the Tourist Information Centre can also advise you on accommodation and dining. It also sells souvenirs, postcards and small treats. Its seasonal opening hours may change, so check in advance whether it will be open when you visit.
History and Structures
The first historical mention of Pastviny dates from 1514; Pastwinie is recorded as an earlier form of the name. Another dated landmark in the village is the statue of St John of Nepomuk. It was erected on 26 May 1818 at the expense of Jan Hovad.
The bell tower at the lower end of the village also provides a date for its construction: it was probably built between 1780 and 1790 and was completely reconstructed in 2010. The construction date is an estimate, while the reconstruction is dated to 2010.
The Pastviny Dam is the last stone-built dam in the Czech Republic. The Kraví skok iron bridge tells a different construction story: it was built over the Divoká Orlice in 1905 and moved to its present location above Bublačka Bay before the valley was flooded. The reinforced-concrete viaduct in Pastviny, meanwhile, is a Class I bridge with two arch spans, each with a clear span of 50 metres. Stone, iron and reinforced concrete thus represent different building methods that can be understood through specific structures in Pastviny.
