Luková – Cycling Routes, Pilgrimages and Sacred Culture
Accommodation in Luková
Luková appeals to travellers who want to combine their stay with cycling and hiking, sacred architecture or a recurring local event. When choosing a hotel, you can plan your trip around these specific themes: the Lukovský mandel, held regularly in spring; pilgrimages and concerts; or the history of the churches and chapels. There are also several named routes. You can first decide whether physical activity, religious tradition or cultural history will be the focus of your trip.
Cycling and Hiking in Luková
The 2.71-kilometre Lanškroun–Luková cycle path connects Lanškroun with the municipality of Luková. It begins at the edge of Lanškroun and ends in Luková at the railway underpass. This clearly identifies the route’s length and both endpoints.
Cycle route No. 4222, “Damníkov – Lanškroun – through the Moravská Sázava Valley to Buková hora,” also passes through Luková. Luková is also on Via Czechia, the so-called Českomoravská route. If you plan to follow a particular route, note its name: Route 4222 and Via Czechia are separately named routes.
The Lukovský mandel is a cycling and hiking excursion held regularly in spring in Luková. Its walking and cycling routes pass through the countryside and small villages in the surrounding area. The exact date varies from year to year, so if you want to plan your trip around this excursion, check the date for the year in question. As a recurring spring event, it is distinct from the routes that pass through Luková.
Churches, a Chapel and Sacred Architecture
The history of the Church of St Margaret (sv. Markéty) can be traced through two dates: construction began in 1882, and the church was completed and consecrated in 1885. Pilgrimage Masses are held in the church every year, and it also hosts organ and Advent concerts. The site thus combines a late 19th-century building history with recurring religious and musical use.
The Chapel of St Lawrence (sv. Vavřince) is located in Květná. Its construction was commissioned in 1863, and it was consecrated on 5 May 1864. The Rococo main altar includes a mensa in the form of a tomb. The tomb shape recalls a funerary monument and describes the design of this central part of the altar. This is an architectural detail distinct from the construction and consecration history of the Church of St Margaret.
Other sacred monuments also form part of the local landscape: there are 17 stone crosses, monuments, statues and wayside shrines in total across the areas of Luková and Květná. Visitors interested in religious architecture and commemorative heritage will find a range of smaller sacred landmarks in addition to the church and chapel.
Pilgrimages and Events
Masses are celebrated regularly in the Chapel of St Lawrence (sv. Vavřince) in Květná. The Svatovavřinecká pouť includes a Mass on the second Sunday in August in honour of St Lawrence. The Lukovská pouť is a separate event: a traditional summer pilgrimage in Luková, held during the school holidays. Event programmes vary from year to year.
Travellers interested in other local events can also choose from a range of occasions. Motosraz Luková is an annual motorcycle rally featuring bands, performances and competitions; food and drink are also part of the programme described. The programmes may vary from year to year. Květná also regularly hosts Chladnokrevníci Květná, competitions for cold-blooded draught horses. The motorcycle rally and draught horse competitions offer different event themes alongside the religious celebrations.
