Karle: Discover churches, the source area and trails
Accommodation in Karle
Karle brings together historic religious buildings, the source of the Loučná and trails to Svatá Trojice. When choosing a destination for your hotel stay, these themes may appeal to different interests: history and architecture, as well as landscapes and outdoor activities. The individual places and trail connections give you specific points of reference to help you decide what to focus on during your stay.
Churches and historical connections
The Gothic Church of Saint Bartholomew in Karle is mentioned as early as 1340. The Cyril and Methodius Chapel offers a different architectural reference point in time: it is a late Baroque subsidiary chapel from the second half of the 18th century, located in Karle near Ostrý Kámen. Gothic and late Baroque refer to two different periods in architectural history. The earlier settlement of the Karle area is also part of the locality’s history; it was probably connected with the Trstenická Road.
Another historical connection leads to Svatá Trojice. The place name derives from a sandstone statue dating from 1823. Svatá Trojice was also a pilgrimage destination. The history of the name and its former religious significance thus add a distinct focus to the architectural history of the church and chapel.
At the source of the Loučná
The Loučná rises in Karle. The “Kapka” monument stands at its source. The area also includes a natural stone wall with built-in benches for resting. Here, the river’s geographical feature meets a designed place with specific points of reference. If you are interested in river landscapes, the source is a separate point of interest alongside the churches and historical connections. Local facilities may change; check their condition before visiting.
Trails and orientation at Svatá Trojice
Svatá Trojice lies at the edge of the forest on the Javornický Ridge. A nature trail called “Na pomezí Čech a Moravy” leads there as its fifth stop. A green-marked hiking trail from Ostrý Kámen to Kukle also leads to Svatá Trojice. In winter, a marked cross-country ski route leads there. The trails mentioned can be distinguished by their purpose: the nature trail leads to a historical and religious site, while the green-marked hiking trail and the winter cross-country ski route indicate different ways of getting around.
At Svatá Trojice, there is a hexagonal wooden shelter with a bench and a map of the cross-country ski trails in the Svitavy region. An information board displays a panoramic photo and describes places visible on the horizon. The different kinds of information are useful for planning: they cover both the trails and orientation on site. Check the current signs and the condition of the facilities; in winter, also check the current condition of the ski trail.
