Church architecture, local history, and landscape offer different starting points for a stay in Bohuňovice. The Church of Saint Procopius provides a concrete historical reference point; waterways, a viewpoint, and cycle route 4231 add nature and cycling themes. If you are looking for a hotel in Bohuňovice, these highlights can help you tailor your travel plans to your own interests.

Church of Saint Procopius

The Church of Saint Procopius was built in 1724 and remodeled in 1818. There are 94 years between its construction and remodeling. Its neo-Gothic furnishings and 19th-century paintings add an artistic perspective to the building’s history. Neo-Gothic refers to a later revival of Gothic design forms. Services are held there during pilgrimages and the church’s annual feast. The building’s history and religious practice thus offer different ways to understand the church.

Local history and remembrance

The first written mention of Bohuňovice dates from the late 12th century, when the village was called Bogunouice. In the 12th century, Bohuňovice belonged to the Litomyšl monastery; in 1347, it became the property of the Bishopric of Litomyšl. The first mention and these changes in ownership mark different historical aspects: the written form of the name and institutional ownership. Bohuňovice is also considered one of the oldest villages in the region.

The local cemetery contains the shared grave of two Soviet prisoners who were killed during a death march in February 1945. The grave commemorates the two victims at a specific location in Bohuňovice.

Landscape and nature

Numerous rarer animal and plant species associated with wetlands and damp meadows live along the Končinský stream. Bohuňovice is near the Velkonetřebský pond. Bouzovka Hill offers views of the Loučná Valley and towards Vysoké Mýto. These features offer different highlights: the stream is notable for its wet habitats and the species they support, while Bouzovka is a viewpoint; the nearby pond adds another body of water to the landscape.
