Zlaty Potok is a mountain settlement with scattered buildings on the northern slope of Jeřáb. The mountain reaches 999 metres; the settlement’s cadastral area covers 297 hectares. The dispersed buildings and hillside location shape the character of the place. Another defining landscape feature is the Zlatý Potok stream: it flows through the settlement and empties into the nearby Morava. The place can thus be identified through three specific points of reference: the settlement, Jeřáb, and the stream and its confluence. This combination of mountain, scattered buildings, and waterway provides a clear framework for describing the place before you choose specific activities for your stay.

History and Character of the Place

The settlement was probably founded in the second half of the 16th century. The place belonged to the Rudá estate. The historical German name Goldenfluss also refers to its setting by the water: it derived from its location beside a stream that flows into the Morava. The name thus links the history of the place with the stream that flows through the settlement.

Post-war changes resulting from the expulsion of the Germans and the resettlement shaped its subsequent development. As a result, Zlaty Potok developed into a locality devoted exclusively to recreation. Its history can therefore be viewed in distinct stages: the probable founding and earlier rule were followed by development shaped by post-war events, turning it into a recreational locality. This historical arc complements the landscape setting with the changing character of the place.

Hiking and Cycling

The M 91 trail is a specific point of reference for hikes. It connects the Jeřáb Massif and Suchý vrch through the Březná Valley. For the route, either half of the M 91 can be used as an approach; return options are available via Králíky or Štíty. This lets you plan around two practical questions: Which half will you use for the approach, and which of the named places will you return through? Before setting out, check the local trail markings and trail conditions.

A cycling route listed in Kolovna’s route directory also passes through Zlaty Potok. This gives you a choice between two different ways of getting around: the M 91 route identifies two mountain areas, the Březná Valley, and approach and return options; the cycling route passes through the settlement. If you are weighing up hiking and cycling, these specific route details can help structure your plans.
