Hraběšice combines a predominantly wooded landscape with the history of a settlement of lumberjacks and miners, as well as a ski park. These features offer different points of focus when planning a stay: natural surroundings, local history and winter sports.

Location and Landscape

The cadastral area covers 617 hectares and consists mostly of wooded mountain terrain known as Hraběšická hornatina. Hraběšice lies on the upper reaches of the Hraběšický potok stream and along the road from Šumperk and Nový Malín to Rudoltice. The stream and road provide specific geographical reference points, while the wooded mountain terrain forms the broader landscape setting.

Local History and Church

Hraběšice began as a settlement of lumberjacks and miners; iron ore was mined in the surrounding area. The village is first mentioned in written sources in 1569. The settlement’s beginnings and its first written mention therefore represent two distinct historical dates.

The Church of St Philip and James was built between 1818 and 1825; a parish was established there in 1842. The construction of the church and the establishment of the parish are two separate milestones in its ecclesiastical history. The walls and ceiling of the choir are covered with Neoclassical frescoes.

Next to the parish church stands a protected rustic Baroque statue of St John of Nepomuk. It dates from the second half of the 18th century, making it older than the church building. The local artworks thus reflect both an earlier Baroque influence and the later Neoclassical design of the choir.

Ski Park and Seasonal Activities

Hraběšice Ski Park is a family-friendly ski centre with slopes at an altitude of 530 to 660 metres. Two interconnected lifts serve the slope; the longer one is a 620-metre double drag lift. The altitude refers to the slopes, while 620 metres is the length of the longer lift. The ski park also offers a ski school for children and adults.

During the summer months, a swimming pool is available below the slope. This provides a specifically seasonal summer activity in addition to the ski centre. As lift configurations, operations and availability may change, check the latest information before your visit.

Krásné and Excursion Opportunities

Nearby, the Krásné reservoir, its surroundings and the settlement of Krásné form a recreational area close to the city. The area includes not only the reservoir, but also the surrounding landscape and the settlement. While the church is part of the village’s history, Krásné is described as a recreational area in the vicinity.

Excursion routes from Skřítek Pass lead towards Šumperk and onward towards Hraběšice. Trail maintenance and conditions vary by season; check them before setting out. The named route “Za květenou podél Rudoltického potoka” lists Sobotín, Rudoltice, Traťovka, Hraběšice and Krásné as stops. The route description was last updated in 2015. Check current local conditions before setting out.
