When planning a stay in Staříč, you can focus on different themes: local history, nature, views and mining. The Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross, the Staříč–Okrouhlá nature trail and Kamenná Nature Monument offer different ways to get to know the destination. A lookout tower and a PumpTrack are also among the specific places and activities described here.

Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross: history and building phases

The Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross stands on the grounds of a former cemetery, enclosed by a perimeter wall and a sculpted entrance gate. The church complex also includes a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The church was already in existence in the 16th century; its tower was added in 1757. A chapel was added in 1852, and the first organs were installed there in 1896. This sequence distinguishes the original church from later additions and features. If you are interested in local history, you will find several dated milestones here rather than just one year of construction.

Nature trail and views from Okrouhlá

The Staříč–Okrouhlá nature trail was created by ČSOP Onyx for the municipality of Staříč and has ten stops in total. They cover the municipality’s present and history, nature conservation, and the view from Okrouhlá. Other topics include life in a meadow, pond and forest ecosystems, and the relationship between people and the landscape. Local history and ecological connections are presented side by side, making the trail a useful starting point if you would like to consider both themes when planning your trip.

The Okrouhlá lookout tower stands on the 378-metre-high Okrouhlá hill. Its observation platform is 30 metres above the ground. In clear weather, the tower offers views of the Jeseníky Mountains and Javorový. The height of the hill and the height of the platform refer to different measurements. Check the current access conditions when planning a visit.

Kamenná: protected nature at the limestone quarry

Kamenná Nature Monument covers 2.83 hectares, was designated in 1990 and lies at an elevation of 329 to 354 metres. It is located on the northeastern slope of the 385-metre-high Kamenná hill in Staříč, on the site of long-abandoned limestone quarries. The nature monument is home to warmth-loving plants and animals, particularly molluscs, beetles and true bugs. Some species are found here at their northernmost point in northeastern Moravia. While Okrouhlá offers views of named destinations in clear weather, the natural focus of Kamenná is its protected area and distinctive species.

Mining history and demonstration mine

Construction of the Staříč mine as a coking coal mine began in 1962. Cvičná štola Staříč is an artificially created underground mine and a demonstration mine with a total of 200 metres of galleries. Inside, standard mining work areas are arranged technologically as they would be in a real mine. Visits are limited to groups of ten or more and are possible only by prior arrangement. If you plan to visit the mine, confirm the booking and visit conditions in advance.

PumpTrack and travel planning

Staříč’s asphalt PumpTrack is located on the football pitch grounds below Okrouhlá. It can be used by inline skaters, scooter riders and skateboarders. On the enclosed circuit, riders maintain speed over rollers and through banked turns by pumping rather than pedalling. This makes the riding technique quite different from a route where you pedal continuously.

Kamenná can be reached by suburban bus routes towards Fryčovice and Brušperk; parking is available at Staříč Primary School and at the Staříč II mine. There is a car park for ten cars below the hill near the lookout tower. Bus travellers can use another car park near the football pitch. Check bus services and parking availability before setting off so that your plans reflect the current situation.
