Radostná pod Kozákovem lies entirely within the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area. The landscape, the spring that gave the village its name, minerals at Kozákov and local traditions are central to choosing where to visit. These themes relate to different times of year: the gemstone exhibition takes place during the summer months, while the carnival sets the date for an annual masked procession. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, considering these occasions and their timing can help you plan your stay around your interests.

Landscape, the village name and minerals

The name Radostná pod Kozákovem derives from the Radostná Spring. It lies on the southwest slope of Kozákov, at an altitude of about 600 m. Kozákov is a very old geological formation created by volcanic activity and a site where unique minerals are found. Another specific point of interest is Votrubcův lom in the settlement of Kozákov. This important natural feature is a well-known site for finding semi-precious stones.

These are distinct points of interest: the spring explains the village name, Kozákov is known for its geological formation and minerals, and Votrubcův lom is a named site for finding semi-precious stones. If you are interested in minerals, these names can serve as separate points of reference when planning your trip.

Gemstones throughout the year

An exhibition of gemstones from Kozákov and the surrounding area’s mineral sites is held every year at the municipal office during the summer months of July and August. If this particular exhibition is important to you, plan your visit for this period.

The collection of semi-precious stones belonging to Mr Votrubec can also be visited year-round in the settlement of Kozákov. Check the current visiting arrangements before your visit. The difference between the two offerings matters when planning the timing of your trip: the exhibition is limited to July and August, while the collection can be visited year-round, subject to the current arrangements.

Carnival and building history

Every year since 1982, during carnival season, Radostná pod Kozákovem has held a masked procession with a horse-drawn carriage, ending with a carnival ball. This recurring tradition gives your trip a seasonal focus. In Volavec, the chapel was restored on the outside in 2017 and on the inside in 2018. The two restoration phases are clearly distinct: first the exterior work, then the interior work.

Spring, hiking trails and cycling

The Radostná Spring lies above Radostná pod Kozákovem, on blue- and yellow-marked hiking trails. A chapel dating from 1841 stands at the spring. This brings together a specific connection to the village’s history and a building with a known year of origin, alongside the hiking trail network.

Two cycling route sections are described, each with different endpoints. The cycle path along road II/282 runs from the crossroads by the cross to Lestkov and was completed in 2019. The second construction phase of the cycle path along road II/283 connects Lestkov with Tatobity; it was completed in 2010. Lestkov is the shared point of reference, while Tatobity is an additional endpoint of the second phase. Check the current condition of the routes before setting out.
