Noviny pod Ralskem lies between the elevations of Lipka and Ralsko, on both banks of the Ploučnice. The river and the surrounding hills form the geographical landmarks of the village. At the eastern edge of the village, the underground exit of the Průrva Ploučnice can be reached from the bridge over the Ploučnice. This makes a distinctive visitor attraction accessible via a specific crossing over the river.

Hiking trails and cycling routes

A red-marked hiking trail passes through Noviny pod Ralskem, has a branch leading to the Průrva Ploučnice, and connects Česká Lípa with Liberec. A yellow-marked shortcut makes it possible to go around Ralsko. The two trails differ in their routes and destinations: the red marking passes through the village, with a branch to the river attraction, and connects two cities; the yellow marking offers the option of going around Ralsko. Cycling route 241 passes through Noviny pod Ralskem.

Local history and traces of fortifications

In the territory of Noviny pod Ralskem, in the forests of Ralsko, nineteen light fortification structures of the vzor 37 type were built from July to September 1938. While hiking through Ralsko, you may also come across unfinished fortification bunkers, excavations and foundation sleeves. The completed structures and unfinished traces represent different aspects of the history of the fortifications.

Noviny pod Ralskem was founded sometime after 1400. The first written record dates from 1504, when the village was part of the Stráž estate. These dates should be distinguished: 1504 is the year of the first written record, not the year of the village’s founding.

Church and landscape features

The Church of the Holy Trinity (Nejsvětější Trojice) continues to serve for church services and cultural events. Another distinctive local feature is the state-protected small-leaved lime tree at the western edge of the village, in front of the “U zlaté lípy” pub. Skalka is a wooded islet with sandstone rocks. These natural features are distinctly different: one is a single protected tree at a named location; the other is a wooded islet with rocks.

Cross-country skiing in winter

Whether the cross-country skiing options are usable depends on snow conditions and track preparation. The first cross-country loop is groomed on the football pitch, is about 400 m long and is suitable for parents with children. The second loop goes around Skalka; the starting point is at the football pitch, and the route is about 4.3 km long. The main differences between the two courses are their length and route: a short loop on the football pitch and a longer loop around Skalka.

A third cross-country skiing route leads from Motorest Zlatá lípa via Srní potok to Mimoň. It is not another loop around a local landmark, but instead follows the stream to Mimoň. When planning a winter outing, take the snow conditions and the state of the track at the time of your visit into account. The grass football pitch is open to the public. If you plan to use it, we recommend confirming its current availability in advance.
