When planning a trip to Neudorf An Der Neiße, several specific themes go hand in hand: cycling, landscapes, church buildings and recurring events. Local information distinguishes between an international cycling route, a 12.5-kilometre circular route, natural features and cultural events. This lets you decide in advance whether your plans will focus more on activity, nature or culture.

Cycling routes and event dates

The international Odra–Nisa cycling route runs from Nová Ves nad Nisou to the Baltic Sea and is 591 kilometres long. The 12.5-kilometre Smržovský vyhlídkový okruh is a different scale: it leads, among other places, to the source of the Nisa and through Nová Ves. This brings together an international connection to the Baltic Sea and a much shorter circular route that follows a local course. Check the route before setting out on the circuit.

The Nisanka lookout tower stands on Novoveský vrch and opened on 5 May 2007. Since 2008, it has regularly hosted the New Year’s climb and the May spring festivities as part of the Nisa River celebrations. If you want one of these events to shape your stay, check the specific dates in advance.

The source of the Nisa and plant life

The source of the Nisa, located in the territory of Nová Ves nad Nisou, is designated as a significant landscape feature. It is also a destination on the Smržovský vyhlídkový okruh. This means the source’s natural significance can be considered both as a landscape feature in its own right and as part of a named route.

Květnatá louka is located on Horní Černá Studnice in the municipality of Nová Ves nad Nisou. It is home to more than 60 meadow plant species, including specially protected species. The wet meadows of Horní Černá Studnice are home to, among others, the early marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza majalis), the heath spotted orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii), the lousewort (Pedicularis sylvatica), bogbean (Menyanthes trifoliata), hare’s-tail cottongrass (Eriophorum vaginatum), common cottongrass (Eriophorum angustifolium) and marsh marigold (Caltha palustris).

Churches and cultural events

The Catholic Church of Our Lady, Help of Christians (Panny Marie, Pomocnice křesťanů) dates from 1935, retains its original furnishings and has stained-glass windows. In addition to regular services, local volunteers have held concerts there irregularly since the late 1990s. If you would like to attend a concert during your stay, check the specific dates in advance.

The Evangelical Gustav-Adolf Church also dates from 1935. The two churches therefore share the same year of construction but differ in denomination. The Catholic church also has the specific features of its original furnishings and stained-glass windows. Their shared year of construction and difference in denomination provide two clear points of reference for understanding their cultural context.

Novoveský javor and rest area

Novoveský javor has been designated a protected memorial tree since 2010. Next to the tree is a rest area with seating, a climbing frame for children and lovely views of the surrounding area. The protected status applies to the tree; the seating and climbing frame are features of the neighbouring rest area. Check its condition before your visit.
