Accommodation in Hranicná
There are several ways to plan a trip to Hranicná: explore its architecture and historic memorials, visit the Trniště granite rock, or enjoy seasonal activities at the “U Vodárny” ski area. If you’re looking for a hotel, you can start by considering which of these themes you want to shape your stay.
Chapel and Stations of the Cross
The chapel in Hranicná has granite stone walls, a brick barrel vault and a shingle roof. Its architecture also includes two small windows with decorative grilles. The term “barrel vault” refers to a vault that runs lengthwise. This makes it easy to distinguish the building materials: granite in the walls, brick in the vault and shingles on the roof. In 2013, the chapel was reconstructed by the Spolek přátel obce Janov nad Nisou.
The construction of the Stations of the Cross and their later restoration are two separate historical dates: they were built in 1878 on land belonging to Josef Klamt, then restored and consecrated in 1903. A route description dating from 2020 specifies marked hiking trails as the only access. It leads from Janov nad Nisou via the yellow trail and from Vysoký hřeben via the green trail. From Bedřichov, or from the other side of the valley of the Bílá (Rýnovická) Nisa in Hranicná, access is via the blue trail. As this route description dates from 2020, check the route locally before setting off.
Memorial and viewpoint
The memorial to the victims of the First World War in Hranicná was erected in 1930 by Josef Stumpe in honour and memory of the sons who fell in the First World War. The Spolek přátel obce Janov nad Nisou reconstructed it in 2004. In 2025, the inscriptions, including the names of the fallen, were renewed. The site thus brings together the memorial’s origins and its later upkeep, each with its own date.
Trniště is a 15-metre-high granite rock with steps carved into the stone and a viewing platform with a railing. The view is now partly obscured by mature trees. Both the rock formation and the limitation on the view are therefore relevant when planning your trip: the view from Trniště is not unobstructed everywhere.
Winter sports at the “U Vodárny” ski area
The “U Vodárny” ski area is located at Hranicná 1348 and has three ski runs. Seasonal facilities and operations may change. The offerings include private and group ski and snowboard lessons for children and adults; lesson availability may vary by season. Snow tubing on inflatable tyres is offered as an activity for the whole family and is also seasonal. Lessons, ski runs and snow tubing are therefore different options to consider when choosing the focus of your trip.
If the road to Bedřichov is closed, the ski area can be reached for lessons and skiing via Vyšehradská and Hranicná streets, as far as the upper lift station. This access information applies when the road is closed and may change due to local traffic restrictions. If this affects your journey, check the current access route in advance. This keeps route planning for the ski area and seasonal activities clearly separate in your travel decisions.
