Besedice is shaped by its sandstone landscape and local history. Besedické skály is home to a rock labyrinth and viewpoints; the chapel of St. John of Nepomuk stands in the village square. Several hiking and cycling trails also pass through the village. For planning, you can consider nature experiences, historical traces, and the type of route separately.

Rock Formations and Views

Besedické skály is a labyrinth of sandstone rocks and scenic viewpoints. Chléviště is the main group of rocks in Besedice. From the well-known Husníkova vyhlídka, you can look out over the Jizera Valley. Both the rock formations and the view of the valley are among the landscape’s defining impressions.

A yellow-marked circular trail runs through the main areas of the Besedické skály natural landscape. Check the trail markings on site. The Kolem Besedických skal circular trail starts at a car park in Besedice. As information about the car park may change, it is advisable to check it before setting off. Besedické skalní město is not accessible to wheelchair users or people with strollers.

Chapel and Historical Traces

The chapel of St. John of Nepomuk stands in Besedice’s village square. It is built of masonry and has a bell tower. Local residents built it; it is also a folk monument to local masonry and stonemasonry from the second half of the 18th century. The building’s form, bell tower, and connection to local crafts give it a clear historical context.

Other historic sites lie in the rocky landscape. Chléviště is home to the Sluj of the exile Václav Sadovský ze Sloupna. At U Kalicha, an altar with a carved chalice and the year 1634 stands amid five rock gorges. This is distinct from Svatyně Kalich: secret services of the Bohemian Brethren were held there during the Counter-Reformation. Together, these sites illustrate different aspects of regional history, though they are not all one location.

Hiking and Cycling Trails

The trails differ in their described type and route. In addition to the yellow-marked circular trail, the Zlatá stezka Českého ráje hiking trail passes through Besedice. Kolem Besedických skal is also a circular trail; its starting point at a car park is a separate landmark for planning. Check the local trail markings and car park information on site or before setting off.

There is also a named cycling connection: a marked cycle route passes the chapel in Besedice and runs via Michovka to Zbirohy. In the Jizera Valley, it connects with the Greenway Jizera trail. Route conditions may change, so check them before your ride. This makes it possible to consider hiking trails through the rocky landscape and a cycling route with stops in several villages as distinct focuses when planning your trip.
