Chodovská Hut: History and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Chodovská Hut
Chodovská Hut combines a tangible local history with a specific cycling connection. Two different aspects are therefore central to planning your trip: historic landmarks in the village and guidance along the regional cycling route. Its history stretches from its founding as a settlement for miners to a school building that still stands today. On the bike, named route points lead to the village and nearby Plánská Huť.
Local History and Places of Remembrance
The history of Chodovská Hut began in 1687, when it was founded as a settlement for the poorest miners from Tři Sekery. It was formerly called “Dolní Šmelctál.” The founding year, the settlers’ origins, and the village’s former name provide concrete reference points for understanding its development. In a north-to-south sequence of the settlements Tachovská, Plánská, and Chodovoplánská (now Chodovská), Chodovská Hut was at the southern end. This geographical context adds a historical perspective to the information about its founding.
The war memorial was erected on September 13, 1925, and is dedicated to the residents of Chodovská Hut who fought in the First World War from 1914 to 1918. The dates refer to different things: 1925 is the year the memorial was erected, while 1914 to 1918 is the period of the war to which its dedication relates. This helps distinguish the time of construction from the period being commemorated when placing the memorial in the village’s history.
The history of the school is also connected with a surviving building. The former itinerant school got its own building in 1884; the school building from 1884 still stands in Chodovská Hut today. This makes it possible to locate the former school in a specific building. The year 1884 marks its construction and adds a different milestone to the village’s history from the founding of the settlement.
Cycling Route and Navigation
Regional cycling route No. 2068 reaches Chodovská Hut at an intersection with the war memorial. An information board about Chodovská Hut also stands at a cycling-route intersection in the village. The route and the board offer different kinds of guidance: the route has a specific number, while the board provides information about the village. Check the signs and route locally before setting out, as trail conditions can change.
From Chodovská Hut, the route continues along cycling path No. 36 to nearby Plánská Huť. The ash tree Jasan pana Šolce offers another connection to the route: it is located 500 meters off the cycling route. There is a bench beneath the ash tree with a view of the village. The information thus distinguishes between continuing along a named cycling path and visiting a tree whose location in relation to the route is also specified. Route conditions and facilities can change; check the route and the condition of the bench locally.
Landscape in the Border Forest
Kajetán Pond lies in the Border Forest, and the Tichá stream flows through it. This water feature adds a specific landscape reference to the local history and cycling route.
