Bezvěrov combines a documented local history dating back to 1273 with a surviving stone monument from the 19th century. It also has a hiking route planned for the 2026 edition of “SETKÁNÍ V BEZVĚROVĚ.” This gives you two distinct interests to consider when choosing a destination: a time-specific event and historical connections tied to specific places and events.

Hike: Route and Date

The 15th edition of the “SETKÁNÍ V BEZVĚROVĚ” hiking and social event was planned for September 13, 2026, and was to end in Bezvěrov. A 4.3-kilometer route from Výškovice to Bezvěrov was planned for this edition. Optional detours extended the route to 7.3 kilometers, adding three kilometers. The planned route passed a monument along an avenue; an optional detour led to restored small monuments in a wooded area and in fields. The longer option therefore combined a greater distance with additional monument stops.

The Stone Monument

The stone monument, dating from 1860, has been preserved and was restored by the town of Teplá. Its origins are linked to Karl Punzet, a local farmer. After surviving an accident on July 11, 1854, involving a cart loaded with stones, he had the monument erected as a votive offering. A relief on its side depicts the accident. The six-year gap between the accident and the monument’s date helps distinguish the occasion from the memorial; at the same time, the relief makes the connection between them visible.

Local History Across Different Periods

Bezvěrov was first mentioned in writing in 1273 in a papal document issued by Pope Gregory X; the document lists the village as property of the Premonstratensian monastery in Teplá. Until 1945, Bezvěrov was known by its German name, Weserau. The dates refer to different things: 1273 is the year of the first written mention, 1945 marks the end of the historical name, and 1860 is the year of the stone monument. This helps you distinguish the medieval documentary history, the place name, and the monument’s history.

Landscape and Travel Planning

Another point of interest in the area is the significant landscape feature Prameniště Podhájského potoka, located near Bezvěrov in the Tepelsko region. It adds a landscape dimension to the information about the hike and local history. Road II/198 runs through Bezvěrov. Check current road conditions before travelling.

When choosing a reason to travel, it is helpful to distinguish between the event date and local history. The hiking route was tied to September 13, 2026; the historical context, by contrast, spans several distinct periods. If you want to travel for the gathering, check the date and route details for a future visit. If local history is your main interest, the monument and the written record offer two specific points of reference from different periods.
