Discover Zdobín
Accommodation in Zdobín
Zdobín can be planned around a variety of interests: pine forests and springs shape the landscape, a certified nature garden adds another dimension to the natural surroundings, and the village’s history tells of pearl making and traditional crafts. If you are looking for a hotel in Zdobín, you can use these highlights to help choose your destination. A cycle route runs through the village, and the Ontário bouldering area offers another specific reason to look into access routes.
Landscape, water, and garden
Most of the municipal area is covered by dense pine forests rich in wild berries, which almost entirely surround the built-up area. The Zdobínský potok rises in Zdobín. The Baliharka spring lies in a nearby meadow and is one of the five springs of the Bystřice River. The stream in the village and the spring in the meadow thus represent different water features in the surrounding area.
The Sbírková zahrada Zdobín offers a distinct natural highlight. Its collection includes trees, shrubs, and perennials; the garden is certified as a nature garden and is open year-round. Plant enthusiasts will find a different focus here from the pine forests that almost entirely surround the built-up area. When planning your visit, you can therefore distinguish between the wooded landscape, the springs mentioned above, and the diverse plant collection.
Cycle route and Ontário bouldering area
A cycle route runs through Zdobín. Ontário, near Zdobín, is a sandstone bouldering area. From Zdobín, you can park at the U Tučků inn and then walk about 0.5 km along a path into the forest. As local parking and property conditions may change, check them before your visit. You should also check climbing conditions and any restrictions separately.
Another route to Ontário leads from Miletínské lázně via tourist route 04 in the direction of Zdobín. Check the route markings before setting out. The two approaches differ in how they are described: an approximate walking distance is given for the route from Zdobín, while the other option follows tourist route 04 toward the village. When planning, you can weigh up the starting point at the inn against access via the marked route from Miletínské lázně.
Crafts and local history
Zdobín’s history spans several distinct periods and crafts. In 1261, the village belonged to the Teutonic Order’s holdings. According to an entry from 1657, Zdobín was burned to the ground during the Thirty Years’ War. In the 19th century, domestic weaving was widespread, including the weaving of kalmuk fabric.
Pearl making also shaped the village. Josef Kynčl, a pearl maker trained in Vienna, began making pearls in Zdobín in 1862. Around 1900, pearl making reached its peak, with pearls blown in every house. The trade developed further in a different form in the early 20th century: in 1931, the production of glass Christmas ornaments replaced the previously declining pearl industry. The sequence of domestic weaving, pearl making, and Christmas ornaments illustrates the different craft traditions that played a role in the village’s history at different times.
Market and travel planning
The traditional folk crafts market was held for the 20th time on May 16, 2026. That edition featured demonstrations of traditional crafts. Roast piglet, sausages, other food, and beer were offered; the program and offerings may vary at future events. If the market is important to your trip, check the dates for the year you plan to visit. The 2026 edition is a specific milestone in the event’s history, while the other topics described here offer ways to explore Zdobín through its landscape, routes, and crafts regardless of the market.
