Marsov U Upice combines local history and folk architecture with opportunities for cycling and walking. Key features include a former farmstead dating from the 19th century, the Maršovská zvonice, Cycle Route No. 4090, which passes through the village, and the Maršovka stream. A traditional festival and a municipal sports facility round out the picture. You can tailor your stay to your interests—for example, by focusing on the built heritage, the landscape or an event.

Folk Architecture and Local History

The former farmstead is a rural farm complex dating from the 19th century, built predominantly of wood. The surviving complex today consists of a granary, barns and an entrance gate. As a significant example of folk architecture, the farmstead is listed in the state register of cultural monuments. The different parts of the buildings and the predominantly wooden construction give the ensemble its rural character; the distinction between the farmstead as a whole and what survives today sets the historic complex apart from its preserved parts.

The Maršovská zvonice also tells of the former function of a local building: historically, it served as a fire alarm station. The Zvonička is the only cultural monument owned by the municipality of Maršov u Úpice. Alongside the surviving farmstead, it stands as another tangible testament to local history, with significance that goes beyond its architectural form.

In the forest at the upper end of the village, the Czech lion is carved into Velký kámen on a hillside. The years 1918 and 1928 are inscribed on the stone. The carving commemorates the sale of the Prorub forest district by Prince Schamburg-Lippe, owner of the Náchod estate, to the town of Jaroměř.

Stream Landscapes and Excursions

The Maršovka rises in Maršov u Úpice and divides the municipality into two unequal parts. From there, the stream flows on towards Libňatov and as far as Havlovice, where it joins the Úpa. Its course therefore describes not only a waterway within the village, but also a link between several of the places named and the confluence with the Úpa.

The Buk u Maršova beech tree stands in a field on the northeastern edge of the village. It is designated as a memorial tree; it was first designated on September 8, 1983. A walk to the beech is recommended as a local excursion. If you enjoy walking, this suggestion gives you a specific reason to consider visiting the tree and its setting at the edge of the field.

For a cycling trip, Cycle Route No. 4090 passes through Maršov u Úpice between Úpice and Křižanov. The route is 33 kilometres long and rated as moderately difficult. Its length and difficulty rating are two useful points of reference for planning; route conditions may vary.

Festival and Sports Facility

Maršovské posvícení traditionally takes place at the cultural centre on the third weekend in October. The festival features good food, koláče, music and entertainment. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the event dates in advance. The traditional timing offers a general guide, while you can plan around the specific dates.

A multifunctional sports facility is located behind the municipal office. It includes a tennis court with an artificial surface and a children's area with a large sandbox and various wooden play elements. The facilities may change, so it is a good idea to check the latest information before your visit.
