Discover Votice
Accommodation in Votice
Votice combines traces of Jewish history with historic sights and outdoor activities. When planning your trip, it is worth keeping the visiting conditions in mind: some places have seasonal access, while the Jewish cemetery has a specific key arrangement. You can also enjoy a section of a cycling trail, a viewpoint with a geological exhibition, and an annual town festival.
Jewish heritage and historic sights
The Jewish cemetery in Votice preserves 360 tombstones, mostly made of granite, dating from 1705 to the end of the 1930s. The cemetery is locked; you can borrow the key from the information centre. Check the local opening arrangements before your visit. This lets you plan your cemetery visit around the key arrangement rather than assuming you can enter spontaneously.
The cemetery grounds also include a restored ceremonial hall with a mortuary. Built in 1885, the building has served as a regional Jewish museum since 2004. The Boží hrob Chapel is one of 27 surviving Holy Sepulchre chapels in the Bohemian lands. You can view its interior through an iron grille. This offers a glimpse inside the chapel without promising access to its interior.
The former Franciscan monastery in Votice dates from the 17th century and offers guided tours and exhibitions. Access is seasonal. Václavka, the 35-metre-high observation tower of Kostel svatého Václava Church, is also a seasonal attraction. Take the information about the season and access into account when planning your visit.
Cycling trail, views and activities for families
As of 25 August 2026, the first section of the Cyklostezka Votickem had been completed and was in operation. It runs from Votice to Olbramovice and is about three kilometres long. Its modern asphalt surface is suitable for cyclists, pedestrians, pushchairs and inline skaters. This section offers a practical way to explore the surrounding area using different modes of transport.
Kamenná vyhlídka is on Na Hůrkách hill above Votice. From there, you can see Votice and the more distant hills of Benešovsko and Posázaví. The viewpoint features a unique outdoor geological exhibition with rock samples and thin sections. There is also an underground telephone, a stony barefoot path and board games for children. Views, geological exhibits and playful features come together here.
There is also a treasure hunt for children, “Putování po Voticích s knížetem Václavem” (“Exploring Votice with Prince Václav”). It follows a two-kilometre route. You can get the game map free of charge from the information centre or download it online. When planning, you can choose between a set treasure-hunt route and the other independent sightseeing options.
Events and visit planning
Svatováclavské slavnosti Votice takes place once a year for the feast of Saint Václav. The programme includes a procession through the town, cultural performances, stalls, fairground attractions, as well as theatre and games for children. Exact dates and the programme vary from year to year, so check the current event information before travelling.
Motýlárium is closed in 2026 for operational reasons. If you are planning a visit later, check in advance whether it has reopened. This will help you choose sights and events according to the applicable visiting conditions.
