Vidice offers several starting points when planning a stay: St. Nicholas Church, castle history, former spa facilities, nature and leisure activities. If you are looking for a hotel, it may help to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip. The area’s cultural history is reflected in specific buildings and their dates; the cycle route, golf course and sports field offer other clearly distinct themes.

Church and castle grounds

The Church of St. Nicholas, with its bell tower and cemetery, is the landmark of Vidice. A church already stood in Vidice in the early 14th century. The protected church grounds include the church, bell tower, perimeter wall with gate and associated land. This makes it possible to place the church in its historical context and also consider it as part of a clearly defined site.

A hunting lodge was built in Roztěž in 1669. Roztěž Castle was remodelled in 1909–1911 to plans by architect Leopold Bauer in the style of Viennese Secession Classicism. The castle grounds include a chapel, a terrace with sculptures, a grotto, a terraced garden and a castle park.

Lázně and its spa history

The Chapel of Panny Marie Pomocné in Lázně is an Empire-style building dating from 1817–1820. The grounds of the “Lázeňský dům” building and chapel include a terrace, a covered access to the spring, former spa buildings and a former forester’s lodge. The former spa facilities in Lázně were a destination for visitors from Kutná Hora.

Another former spa site is in Roztěž. Its features include a stone fountain and three barrel-vaulted bridges. The former spa site adds a distinct aspect to Roztěž’s architectural history.

Landscape and geological features

The area east of the road towards Mezholezy–Vidice–Košice is part of the “Údolí Bylanky a Vrchlice” Nature Park. The nature park protects wooded valleys, some with rocky sections, cut through by streams, as well as xerothermic communities on Cretaceous sediments.

Sandstone quarries lie near Nová Lhota in trackless terrain, more than 250 metres from the road. If you plan to visit this feature, take into account the distance from the road and the trackless terrain. One of the quarries is known for the discovery of a dinosaur skeleton from the Iguanodontidae family.

Cycling, golf and sports

The CKH14 “Do Uhlířských Janovic” cycle route passes through Vidice. It is 53.6 kilometres long, with a possible variation of ±5 percent. The route length helps you assess its scale without specifying a walking or cycling time.

Casa Serena in Roztěž 1, Vidice, is an 18-hole golf course with a par of 71 and a length of 6,364 metres. Check current access arrangements before making specific plans. The VSH multi-purpose sports field in Roztěž can be used for tennis, volleyball, nohejbal, handball and football.

For your stay, you can focus on cultural history, landscape or a particular activity; this will determine which of these details matter most to you.
