If you are looking for a hotel in Uhlířské Janovice, you can plan your stay around your own interests: Gothic and late Baroque churches, Jewish heritage, marked cycling and hiking trails, and a natural swimming pool offer different focal points. The following sections will help you distinguish between these themes when making your travel plans.

Churches from the Gothic to the Late Baroque

The medium-sized Gothic church Kostel sv. Jiljí has a polygonal presbytery and a northern sacristy. Part of the masonry of an older Romanesque church has been preserved in the nave. The presbytery features remarkable Gothic wall paintings. A polygonal presbytery has a multi-sided floor plan; the technical term describes the shape of the space, while the wall paintings refer to a decorative feature. If you would like to view the paintings inside, check access in advance.

Kostel sv. Aloise stands in the middle of the town square. The church is a Late Baroque building, completed in 1795; its interior furnishings are Baroque and Rococo. This gives it a different architectural point of reference from sv. Jiljí: here, the focus is on the Late Baroque construction period and Baroque-Rococo furnishings, while there, it is on Gothic forms and a preserved part of the Romanesque nave masonry. Check access to the interiors of both churches in advance.

Jewish Heritage and Memorial Sites

The former synagogue in Uhlířské Janovice was built in the Baroque style in 1798 and now serves as a prayer house of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. Check its current use before visiting.

Part of the perimeter wall and two gravestones have been preserved at the former Jewish cemetery. One of these gravestones was converted into a memorial to the destroyed cemetery. In this way, preserved cemetery features stand alongside a specific commemorative marker. By contrast, the synagogue building’s current religious use is an important point of reference.

Cycling Route and Hiking Trails

If cycling is your priority, the long-distance Pražská trasa cycling route passes through the town. On foot, a green-marked hiking trail runs through Uhlířské Janovice; the yellow-marked hiking trail starts at the local railway station. The details therefore differ by mode of travel and point of reference: Pražská trasa and the green trail run through the town, while the yellow trail is specified as starting at the railway station. Check the current trail markings on site before setting out.

Cultural Centre and Natural Swimming Pool

The municipal cultural and information centre has an exhibition hall and a library. These facilities offer a different focus from the religious buildings. If you are planning a visit, check the current opening arrangements in advance.

A natural swimming pool with a grassy, tree-shaded shore offers another option to consider when planning your trip. Before swimming, check the current bathing conditions and access.
