Tomice can be understood through its location east of the D1, its early local history, and the landscape along the Tomický potok. If you are looking for a hotel in Tomice, these specific connections can help you match the destination to the purpose of your trip. Topics include the historical connection to the Vyšehrad Chapter, the Švihov Reservoir, and an amateur cycling race whose 18th edition took place in 2025.

Location and Orientation

Tomice lies 3 kilometers east of exit 66 of the D1 motorway. The new Dolní Kralovice is 2 kilometers west of Tomice. These two details use different geographical reference points: the motorway exit to the east and the new settlement to the west. At 2 kilometers, the new Dolní Kralovice is stated to be closer to Tomice than exit 66, at 3 kilometers; the reference points lie in opposite directions.

Local History and Early Mention

Tomice originated as part of Svatavina Újezd, which was colonized by the Vyšehrad Chapter, and was a prebend of the canons. The first mention comes from a confirmation charter in which Charles IV confirmed the possessions of the Vyšehrad Chapter in 1352. Its origin in connection with Svatavina Újezd and its first mention are separate milestones: 1352 is not identified as the year Tomice was founded.

Water Landscape and Regional History

Tomice lies on the Tomický potok, which flows into the Želivka and the Švihov Reservoir. The stream identifies the immediate connection to water; the reservoir adds a broader regional historical context. The original Dolní Kralovice, in the surroundings of Tomice, was flooded by the Želivka–Švihov Reservoir; the new settlement was rebuilt in the 1970s. The new Dolní Kralovice is therefore not only a reference point to the west, but also part of the history of the surrounding area transformed by the reservoir. Near Tomice, Křenová hora forms a natural landmark; its summit is 528 meters high. While the Tomický potok identifies the waterscape, nearby Křenová hora adds a point of elevation.
