Sojovice brings together a historic bridge, village memorials and natural features along the Jizera. A cycling route that passes through the village and a local fishing water are also relevant when planning a trip. The details below distinguish between construction history, the protected river landscape and activities with specific conditions.

The Jizera and the Černý Orel protected area

The Jizera flows through the cadastral area of Sojovice. The Černý Orel protected area also extends into this area. It protects Jizera floodplain habitats, including deciduous forests, floodplain meadows and grassland. The protected area is also home to the dusky large blue butterfly. This means the area’s natural features include both the river landscape and several named habitat types.

The former riverbed created during construction of the bridge is still visible; locals call it Stará Jizera. Its creation is thus connected to the history of the bridge, while it also forms a distinct landscape feature. Anyone interested in the connection between the structure and the river landscape will find another specific point of interest here, alongside the protected area.

The Sojovice Bridge: dimensions and construction history

The Sojovice Bridge opened on 5 December 1909. At the time, it was one of the largest reinforced-concrete bridges in the Kingdom of Bohemia. The length depends on what is being measured: the bridge itself is 64 metres long; including the side wings, its total length is 78 metres. The two figures therefore refer to different measurements.

A commemorative document is also part of the construction history: it is sealed inside a metal capsule within the structure and bears the signatures of those who attended the opening ceremony, including Archduke Charles. The bridge is therefore described not only by its opening date and dimensions, but also by a keepsake from the ceremony.

The bell and the war memorial

The Sojovice war memorial stands at the centre of the landscaped area on the village square. It was unveiled on 28 September 1924. The names of nine local residents who fell in the First World War are engraved on the memorial. The date, location and inscription each offer a different point of reference for the history of this memorial site.

The bell in the Sojovice belfry is another trace of the past. It dates from 1533 and is still in use. Unlike the war memorial, whose inscription names nine local residents, the bell is notable for its age and continued use.

Planning cycling, bus travel and fishing

Cycling route 0041 Káraný–Kochánky passes through Sojovice. If you include it in your plans, check current route conditions before setting out. The Sojovice stop on regional bus route 315 was established from 14 December 2025. Check current departure times before travelling by bus.

A two-hectare body of water in Sojovice is part of fishing area 411 174 JIZERA 1 A. Fishing at the Sojovice water is permitted on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Check the applicable rules again before fishing. The specified days of the week are a concrete planning detail, distinct from the village’s landscape and history.
