Accommodation in Korkyne
Korkyne lies in the central Vltava Valley, in the Slapy recreational area and near the town of Nový Knín. Forests and traces of mining are a defining feature of the landscape, while legends, the fortress and chapels shape the area's history. There is also a pond in the village and horse-riding opportunities. The place names help put things in context: the Vltava Valley refers to the wider landscape, Slapy to the recreational area, and Nový Knín is a nearby point of reference for Korkyně.
Local history, from legend to fortress
The earliest written mention of Korkyně dates back to 1316. Local tradition includes the legend “Pověst o Korkyni,” recorded by Bartoloměj Paprocký in 1602. These dates provide a time frame for local history: the remains of the fortress were later converted into a granary. The chapel in Korkyně was renovated in 2012. The fortress chapel, by contrast, was deconsecrated in 1790 and converted into a residential building. These different developments help show that the area's history cannot be reduced to a single building or period.
Forest, pond and traces of mining
The municipality's largest forest complex, Okrouhlík, extends to the southwest in the direction of the village of Pánkov. The Korkyňský rybník pond is located right in Korkyně. When it was fully revitalized in 2022, benches and an information board were added. Check the condition of the facilities before visiting.
The landscape around Okrouhlík is also associated with gold mining. Since 2006, an area undermined by mining and containing gold-bearing ore has been located in the Korkyně area. The traces include spoil heaps and depressions in forested areas on the edge of Okrouhlík, northwest of the village of Pánkov. The Okrouhlík gold mine near Korkyně yielded gold from remnants of ore veins and was leased several times in the second half of the 16th century. Nature and mining history thus come together in the same landscape.

If you want to plan your trip around it, check the dates for the relevant edition. This distinguishes the more consistently available points of interest—history and landscape—from activities whose availability or dates you should confirm in advance.
