Forest lakes and landscape

Forest lakes and forestry history offer two specific themes for a stay in Stubberup. The lakes give the landscape clear points of reference, while the history of forest ranger Frans Muus is associated with named tools and a memorial stone.

Gammelsø is a small, nutrient-rich forest lake south of Stubberup, on the edge of Stubberup Storskov. Pertri Sø is a small forest lake in the southern part of Stubberup Storskov, near Gammelsø; other references use the name Perti Sø. The different points of reference help with orientation: Gammelsø is associated with the forest edge and its location south of Stubberup, while Pertri Sø is associated with its location in the southern part of the forest and its proximity to Gammelsø. These location details make it possible to distinguish between the two lakes.

Stubberup Storskov covers 168 hectares. A historical landscape description places its extent southward along the western boundary of Borup Parish. The area figure describes its size, while the historical account adds a direction and a reference to the parish. Information from the Danish Nature Agency (Naturstyrelsen) dated March 20, 2026, describes Stubberup Skov as a small forest with a distinctive natural forest character that can be left entirely to its own devices. This description of its natural forest character refers to Stubberup Skov, whereas the area figure refers to Stubberup Storskov. 168 hectares is equivalent to 1.68 square kilometers.

In Stubberup Skov, there are no public facilities apart from parking areas. As facilities may change, check the current situation before your visit.

Forestry history and Frans Muus

Stubberup Storskov is home to a memorial stone for forest ranger Frans Muus. Muus worked in the forests for 34 years. He invented the Svenstrupskøjten, a spring-tooth harrow for clearing young forest stands, as well as the Svenstrup mølleharve. The two inventions can also be distinguished by their documented associations: the Svenstrupskøjten is specifically described as being used to clear young forest stands; the mølleharve is another of Muus’s inventions.

Drawings and the Svenstrup mølleharve are on display at the Skovbo Museum in Nr. Dalby. This provides a museum connection to Muus’s forestry history, in addition to the memorial stone in Stubberup Storskov. If you plan to visit the museum during your stay, check access arrangements separately.

Your stay and finding a hotel

When choosing a hotel, consider what you plan to do during your stay. If nature is your main focus, take the location details for the lakes and the natural forest character into account; for a cultural and historical focus, you can consider the memorial stone and the museum. Compare the specific details of location, facilities, and terms in each hotel listing. This way, your search can reflect your plans and requirements.
