The harbour, coast and nature offer different focal points for planning a trip to Havnsø. The harbour combines fishing, ferry traffic and pleasure boats. The coastal paths and the open areas of Vesterlyng offer different experiences. You can decide which places and activities to include in your stay according to your interests.

Harbour, Ferry and Beaches

Havnsø Havn is a combined fishing, ferry and pleasure boat harbour. There are 250 permanent berths for pleasure boats; the harbour also has visitor berths and service facilities. A slipway is used to launch and retrieve boats. The harbour has been awarded the Blue Flag.

Ferries run from Havnsø to the protected island of Nekselø. Timetables vary by season, so it is worth checking the timetable before planning a crossing. The beaches east and west of the harbour may also be of interest when planning your time on the coast: swimming in calm water and views of Nekselø and Sejerø are possible there.

Eskebjerg Vesterlyng beach is five kilometres long and characterised by white, stone-free sand. It is considered child-friendly. Vesterlyng’s North Beach, by car park 1, is designated an official Nordic bathing spot. This information helps you take two different beach features into account when planning: the description of the long sandy beach and the designation of the North Beach.

Vesterlyng and Paths Through the Landscape

Vesterlyng lies at the western end of Havnsø. Eskebjerg Vesterlyng includes Zealand’s largest heathland, with scattered vegetation. The landscape includes grazed heath with juniper scrub, coastal meadows and dune areas. A long stone formation separates the area from the adjoining farmland. Eskebjerg Vesterlyng has been protected under Danish nature conservation law since 1945 and is part of Natura 2000 site No. 154.

A total of 1,819 species have been recorded in the area, including 199 Red List species. These figures refer to recorded observations and may change as further surveys are carried out. At the entrances to Eskebjerg Vesterlyng, information boards direct visitors to the car parks in the area.

Two marked walks start at the large P6 car park at Vesterlyng. Local access rules may change; check the latest information before setting out. Another option is the Bjergstien: the route is about 15 kilometres long and runs from Eskebjerg Vesterlyng via Højsted Overdrev and Stokkebjerg Skov. It ends at Jyderup railway station via the Jyderupstien. Parts of the route are not signposted, which is important to bear in mind when planning your walk.

The Istidsruten also runs through Eskebjerg Vesterlyng. Coastal paths connect Havnsø with the surrounding villages along the coast of Sejerø Bay. This offers several options when planning a route: marked walks starting at P6, a longer route with a named railway station as its destination, and coastal paths between the villages.

Culture and Activities in Havnsø

VÆRFTET is a member-run association offering numerous social and cultural activities to the public in Havnsø. It is based in a former wooden shipyard associated with the maritime setting of Havnsø Havn. The place thus combines its former use as a shipyard with today’s social and cultural activities.

Havnsø Havnebad offers winter bathing, a sauna and a playground. As operating arrangements may change, check the latest information before visiting. This makes it possible to include the harbour, nature, beach and local amenities in your travel plans according to your interests.
