Høruphav – Hiking, Nature and Harbor
Accommodation in Høruphav
You can therefore plan your stay around the focus that matters to you—hiking, a circular route in the bird sanctuary, or the history of the harbor.
Hiking the Gendarmstien
The 84-kilometer Gendarmstien passes through Høruphav and takes you through varied natural landscapes. For a specific hike, the 10-kilometer section from Høruphav to Skovby, rated easy, is also an interesting option. The torpedo station near Hørup Klint is a detour on this section. This gives you two different planning scales: the trail’s total length and an individual section with a named start and finish. Comparing the total length with the section helps you gauge the scope of your hiking plans. The easy rating applies to this section, not to the Gendarmstien as a whole.
There are benches and disassembly bunkers built in 1958 in the area around the torpedo station near Hørup Klint. The combination of a place to rest and an architectural detail gives the detour its own appeal. If you don’t want to plan a hike based on distance alone, the torpedo station offers a specific destination along the section.
Forest, Circular Route and Bird Sanctuary
Lambjerg Indtægt is a lush beech forest immediately west of Høruphav. Parts of the forest are designated as dog forests; this designation applies to certain areas, not to the forest as a whole. This distinction is important if you’re planning to bring a dog. Trillen offers a different natural highlight: it is a bird sanctuary near Høruphav on Als. A path runs all the way around Trillen. This lets you choose between a forest with a dog-forest designation that applies only to some areas and a circular route in a bird sanctuary.
The rare sea rocket grows along the coast at Trillen; sightings are seasonal. This gives the natural area a specific botanical feature in addition to its bird sanctuary. If you’d like to look out for the plant, the season is relevant when planning your trip.
Harbor History and Maritime Orientation
Høruphav developed from a fishing hamlet. Between 1848 and 1918, parts of the harbor were built for military purposes. The town’s development and the military construction of certain parts of the harbor are two distinct historical topics.
Høruphav Havn & Brolaug has 300 berths and is set in a scenic location. The harbor is sheltered from the wind in all directions. Capacity may change; check current berth information if the number is important for planning your trip.
The restaurants at Hotel Baltic in Høruphav serve dishes made with seasonal ingredients; organically produced ingredients and those from local suppliers are preferred. Menus and sourcing may change. If this culinary approach matters for your trip, check the latest information in advance.
