Ullerslev combines Bondemosen, a green space in the heart of town, with Romanesque church architecture and local cycling routes. There is also a walking path around Bondemosen. The routes range from just under three kilometres for the walking path to a tour of about 26 kilometres south of town. The church’s art and a map of Ullerslev painted on a gable also provide practical points of reference for planning your trip.

Bondemosen: Meadow and Walking Path

Bondemosen is a green space in the heart of Ullerslev and is designated as a quiet area. Municipal planning aims to preserve its peaceful character by ensuring that no new noise-generating technical facilities or noise-affected areas are planned nearby. Livestock graze at Bondemosen in summer. Grazing maintains the meadow’s character and its distinctive plants, while keeping the area open. A walking path just under three kilometres long goes around the area. Bondemosen therefore combines an open meadow landscape with a specific walking loop. Take the route length into account when planning, and check local conditions before setting out.

Church, Frescoes and Ullerslev as a Map

The choir and nave of Ullerslev Church date from around 1200 and were built in the Romanesque style. The church is richly decorated with frescoes, including a striking depiction of the Crucifixion. A written signature from 1485 names the painters Christian Petersen and Peter Lauritsen. The Romanesque building phase and the much later, dated signature thus offer distinct historical points of reference.

A painting covering just over 30 square metres on the gable of Vibeskolen depicts Ullerslev as a map. The motif draws attention to the town as a whole, setting it apart from the church’s frescoes. Ullerslev also has a 360-square-metre skate park by Vibeskolen.

Routes Starting at Ullerslev Church

Two named routes start at Ullerslev Church. The “Bølgende marker” route follows small roads with very little traffic. The “Bondemose og ‘pyramide’” route also starts at the church. South of Ullerslev, this tour runs for about 26 kilometres through marshland, past mills and churches, to the “Pyramid” of Degnes Høj, Denmark’s only “pyramid”. The two routes differ considerably in scale: the walking path around Bondemosen is just under three kilometres long, while the southern tour is about 26 kilometres.

Ullerslev has several local cycling routes that can be taken as detours from the main route. To choose a route, it helps to consider the descriptions separately: “Bølgende marker” is described as following small, low-traffic roads, while “Bondemose og ‘pyramide’” is distinguished by its approximate length and the stops along the way. This lets you plan your outing based on the features given for each route without treating one route as if it were another.
