Nordstrand: Discover the Coast and Culture
Accommodation in Nordstrand
When planning a trip to Nordstrand, you can focus on three themes: the coast, hiking trails and traces of the Bronze Age. Hou Nordstrand lies at the northernmost point of Langeland. There are also marked trails through the forests of northern Langeland, a hike along the north coast linked to the Bromme culture, and Djævlestenen in Hollænderhus. You can begin by choosing your destination based on whether you would rather include a beach, a walk through the landscape or culture in your plans.
Hou Nordstrand and its beach sections
At Hou Nordstrand, access points are designated by beach section. The eastern part can be reached via Hou Plantage, and the western part via Houvej; there is a car park for beachgoers near the western section. The distinction between the sections provides a practical guide for choosing where to go on the beach.
Hiking trails by length and theme
Three marked trails lead through Vestre Stigtehave, Bræmlevænge and Mørkholm Skov in the forests of northern Langeland. They are 3.5 km, 1.6 km and 2.7 km long, respectively. By distance, Bræmlevænge is the shortest of the three options, Vestre Stigtehave the longest, and Mørkholm Skov falls in between.
Hov Østerstrand is an open nature area owned by the Danish Nature Agency. A 2 km hike passes through the area and follows the traces of the Bromme culture along Langeland’s north coast. This route therefore combines a specific distance with a cultural-historical theme.
Another circular trail starts at Hou Nordstrand, passes Franke Klint and a lighthouse, reaches Hou Fyr and returns to the starting point. When choosing between the hikes, you can compare the stated length of the Hov route with the route that passes Franke Klint and Hou Fyr.
Djævlestenen and the forests of northern Langeland
Hollænderhus has an exhibition about the forests of northern Langeland, and is also home to the Bronze Age Djævlestenen. The stone is decorated with more than 100 so-called cup marks dating from the Late Bronze Age, around 1000 to 500 BC. It weighs 3.5 tonnes and was split in two at some point. The exhibition and the stone bring together the theme of northern Langeland’s forests and a specific archaeological object in one place.
Hotels for your trip to Nordstrand
If you are looking for hotels for a trip to Nordstrand, you can plan your outings around your interests: Hou Nordstrand for the beach, the marked trails for a hike, or Hollænderhus and Djævlestenen for forests and the Bronze Age. Think about which of these themes you want to shape your plans, then look for hotels in Nordstrand.
