The broader destination of Općina Čačinci provides useful regional context. The following places and routes can help you put these regional themes into context as you plan your trip.
In the broader destination of Općina Čačinci: Landscape and Nature
Jankovac was designated a protected park forest in 1955. The park forest is a mountain valley on the northern slopes of Papuk, at an elevation of 475 metres above sea level. It is surrounded by a century-old beech forest. Karst features in the area include sinkholes, springs and caves. The valley, forest and karst each offer a different aspect of the landscape to consider when choosing places to visit.
Access to Jankovac Park Forest is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on weekends and public holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Check the hours again before you travel.
Hiking Trails and a Planned Cycling Route
The Jankovac–Klak route is intended for leisurely walkers and mountain hikers, combining educational and recreational elements. It connects the Jankovac excursion area with the historic Klak Fortress and presents the area's history and biodiversity. The route is in the protected Papuk area. Multilingual information boards enhance the trail; content in German, English and Hungarian is available via QR codes. Check local access options before setting off.
Another route, the Grofova educational trail, runs alongside the Jankovac mountain lodge, the Jankovac lakes and Skakavac Waterfall. Information boards along the route cover natural and cultural-historical features. It is intended for everyone, especially schoolchildren, who can learn about the area's values with expert guidance.
A planned educational cycling route in the Papuk and Slatinski Drenovac area is a separate project. It is planned to cover 6.09 kilometres along existing forest tracks and roads for recreational cyclists and visitors. Treat the route as a plan and check whether it has been completed before making specific plans to use it.
Klak Fortress and Cultural Attractions
The medieval Klak Fortress lies south of Slatinski Drenovac at an elevation of 305 metres above sea level, above the gorge of the Jankovački potok stream. Its two round towers are different sizes; an irregularly shaped well stands in the middle of the courtyard. The surviving walls are 6 to 9 metres high. These architectural details give the fortress a distinctive profile and complement the historical focus of the Jankovac–Klak route.
The Church of St. George in Slatinski Drenovac is also designated a cultural attraction. The medieval knights' tournament in Slatinski Drenovac takes place every year. Check the specific event dates before planning your trip around it.
