Kukljica combines sacred architectural history with coastal paths, bays and beaches. If you are looking for a hotel in Kukljica, its churches, procession, paths and types of beaches offer concrete clues about which interests might shape your trip. Local highlights range from historic buildings to walks and different stretches of coastline.

Churches, architectural history and procession

The votive church of Gospe od Sniga is located in the Ždrelac Strait between Ugljan and Pašman. It features Baroque elements dating from the 17th century and has been protected by the state as a cultural monument since 1982. Its location, architecture and protected status offer different ways to explore the history of this church.

The parish church of Sv. Pavla is located in the centre of Kukljica. The present-day church was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1666; construction of its bell tower began in 1741. The dates refer to different parts of the structure: 1666 to the church and 1741 to the start of the bell tower’s construction.

The traditional boat procession from Kukljica creates a special link between the two churches. It takes place on 5 August and has been celebrated since 1514. During the procession, the image of Mary is carried by sea from the votive church of Gospe od Sniga in Ždrelašćica Bay to the parish church of Sv. Pavla. The date, long-standing tradition and route across the water shape this custom.

The church of Sv. Jerolima is located in Kostanj Bay, northwest of Kukljica. Historians date it to the 14th century. It was restored, with the work completed in July 1997; the church was consecrated that same month. In contrast to the Baroque architectural history of Sv. Pavla, the focus here is on an earlier historical period.

Lungomare Paths and Beaches

The Lungomare paths run along the coast and numerous bays. They offer opportunities for walks through olive groves and dense pine forests. This means that both coastal scenery and wooded paths are among the ways to explore Kukljica on foot.

The beaches also vary in their surface and surroundings. Sabuša combines sandy and concrete areas and is bordered by a pine forest. Jelenica, a nudist beach surrounded by olive trees, is close to Sabuša. North of Kukljica, Kostanj Bay has a sandy beach suitable for anchoring small boats.

Rowboats, Cycling and Diving

Small rowboats can be rented in Kukljica and at the Zelena Punta holiday resort. Check availability before your trip if you plan to rent one.

Bicycles can also be rented at Zelena Punta. They can be used for rides across the entire island and on a mountain biking trail on Pašman. Here too, it is advisable to check rental availability before your trip.

A valid permit issued by the Croatian Diving Federation is required for diving in Kukljica. Check the current permit procedures before diving.
