Check current route conditions before setting out.
Cycling routes with different profiles
The road cycling route “Mistika otoka” is 33.6 kilometres long, has 565 metres of elevation gain, is entirely paved and is designated for road bikes. Žedno lies twice along its route on Čiovo. The section from Okrug Gornji to Žedno is particularly notable: the climb extends over three kilometres at an average gradient of 4.5 percent. This is followed by a descent with hairpin bends and gradients of up to 18 percent. Before riding, check the route’s current conditions, including those for the climb and descent described here. The distance and surface offer a different perspective from the challenging gradient on this section of the route.
The “Treasure of Čiovo” route is 13.4 kilometres long and has 292 metres of elevation gain. It is intended for trekking, mountain or gravel bikes. As a family and trekking route, it runs from Trogir through Žedno to Okrug Gornji and Milićevo, then back to Trogir. Beyond Žedno, the route follows fine gravel, with sea views and another rest stop for cyclists. In comparison with the paved road cycling route, this one places greater emphasis on a different surface and a different bike classification. Check current route conditions before setting out on foot or by bike.
The MTB route “Trogir from above” also passes through Žedno. It is 13.9 kilometres long, has 346 metres of elevation gain and starts at the car park next to the old Čiovo Bridge. Check current route conditions before riding. The route includes Balan, Žedno, Arbanija and Mastrinka. The Church of Blessed John of Trogir is one of its points of interest. You can assess this route profile by its length, starting point and the stops listed.
For a different assessment of the difficulty, consider the “Doživite Čiovo” route: it is 20.5 kilometres long and has 526 metres of climbing. Frequent changes in surface and technically challenging sections define its profile. Check current route conditions before riding. Žedno lies on the route; the Church of St. Maurus is listed as a point of interest near the village. Compared with the surfaces and bike types specified for the other routes, the technical sections and changing surface deserve particular attention here.
Paths to the Church of St. Mavra
A description dated 19 September 2020 mentions the five-kilometre St. Mavar Path: it leads from the centre of Žedno via a viewpoint to the Church of St. Mavra and back. It is intended for advanced cyclists and runners. The description also notes that signage and maintenance may change, so check for current information beforehand.
A short path to the Church of St. Mavra is listed as approximately 600 metres long and suitable for easy walking or cycling, including family outings. This path description is also dated 19 September 2020. The two descriptions therefore differ in more than just length: the five-kilometre St. Mavar Path is a loop for advanced users, while the short church path is for easy walking or cycling. Check the signage and conditions before your visit.
Cultural history in Trogir
In Trogir itself, the medieval town was built on the plan of a Hellenistic and Roman city. Kamerlengo Fortress was built between 1420 and 1437 on the southwestern side of the island where Trogir’s historic old town is located. The Great and Small Ćipiko Palaces grew out of the joining of Romanesque buildings. Trogir’s Cathedral of St. Lawrence is known for its 13th-century Radovan Portal. Alongside the cycling routes through Žedno, Trogir therefore offers its own cultural and historical attractions.
