Accommodation in Slivno
Slivno between a basin and a ridge
Slivno lies in a broad basin surrounded by hills. To the south, the Osoje mountain range forms part of the landscape; at 856 metres, Velika Kitica is Slivno’s highest point. The basin, southern ridge and highest elevation describe the place at different scales: its broad landform, a named range and a specific high point.
Archaeological site and Church of the Holy Trinity
The medieval cemetery of Greblje-Grebnik lies beside the Krstatice–Slivno local road. There, 32 Stećci are preserved on both sides of the road. Alongside the church architecture, this is a distinct medieval burial site.
Construction of the parish church of the Holy Trinity began in 1734 and was completed in 1753. An extension in 1861 gave it its present form. The façade features an octagonal stone rose window, and Stećci are visible in the church’s lower walls. The building phases thus span more than a century, from the start of construction to the extension.
East of the parish church stands a vaulted chapel with a small altar and an open façade. It was built for Masses during larger gatherings and in summer. Check on its current use before visiting.
Blacksmithing in Slivno
A 2025 HRT report describes Kovačija Nogalo, in a hamlet of Slivno, as the only remaining blacksmith’s workshop in the Imotski area. According to the report, it is run by the seventh consecutive generation of the Nogalo family. The report lists agricultural and culinary tools among its products, including peke, pans, grills and fire shovels. A 2021 report noted that the original forge, built in 1774, had been preserved in its original form. The focus is thus on both a craft passed down through generations and a historic forge building.
Home gardens and wine tradition
Traditional home gardens in Slivno included raštika, garlic, onions and some Swiss chard. In rainy summers, local turnips and radishes were also grown. Slivno’s black wine is also part of this agricultural history: it was an Opol made from about ten white and red grape varieties, associated with the village’s slopes and known in the surrounding area. Garden crops and wine represent different aspects of past production: home gardens on the one hand, and cultivation on the slopes on the other.
