Zivogosce combines olive groves and pine forests with pebble beaches, clear sea and a dramatic mountain backdrop. It also offers archaeological and religious heritage, opportunities for cycling and hiking, water activities and regional cuisine. When choosing where to stay, you can consider whether the coast, outdoor activities, history or potential day trips are your priority. The local features below show which aspects of Zivogosce can shape your travel plans.

Coast and landscape

The small pebble beaches stretch for around six kilometres in total and are connected; various activities are available by the sea. The coastline lies below the summit of Sutvid, which is given as 1,155 metres high. Together with the clear sea, olive groves and pine forests, this creates a landscape of coastline, wooded areas and mountain scenery. If the wider landscape matters to you as well as the beach when planning your trip, this combination offers a useful point of reference.

Archaeological traces and history

The Licinianus Epigram is dated to the year 474. It was carved into a rock above the spring at Pokrivenice by the sea and consists of 16 Latin hexameters. This inscription brings together a specific date, a precisely named location and a particular literary form.

Other archaeological remains include Illyrian burial mounds on Suzine Hill and the remains of rustic Roman villas in Mala Duba and Blato. They complement the inscription with traces from different historical contexts.

The monastery in Zivogosce was founded in 1616 and served for centuries as a centre of regional spiritual life and literacy. Its history is associated with a rich library and valuable works of art. This historic role adds a religious and cultural perspective to the archaeological remains.
