The Municipality of Muć lies in the Dalmatian Zagora at an elevation of about 450 m, at the foot of 838 m-high Moseć. Muć is also near 1,508 m-high Svilaja. Mućko polje stretches from Neorić to Donje Postinje.

Two routes are important for getting your bearings on the road network: State Road D56 runs from Drniš through Muć to the Klis-Grlo interchange, where it joins D1 towards Split. State Road D219 connects the Municipality of Muć with Sinj and continues to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Mountain biking on three routes of different lengths

Numerous quiet gravel roads and forest tracks provide good conditions for mountain bikers in the municipality. The Andetrij, Borovača and Zmina MTB routes differ in length, elevation gain and difficulty. Andetrij is 23.3 km long, has an elevation gain of 205 m and a difficulty rating of 2; the route is intended for recreational cyclists. Borovača covers 25.5 km, has an elevation gain of 518 m and a difficulty rating of 4. Most of it passes through the wooded area of the Municipality of Muć.

At 47.5 km, Zmina is the longest of the three routes; its elevation gain is 752 m and its difficulty rating is 4. Because of its length, it is described as the most demanding route. This makes it possible to choose a ride based on specific differences: Andetrij is intended for recreational cyclists, while Zmina offers the longest distance. Borovača also has a difficulty rating of 4 and mostly follows a wooded route.

Mačkare and living traditions

The annual masked procession of the Mačkare from the Muć area is protected as intangible cultural heritage and listed in the Register of Cultural Goods under the designation Z-4844. During the procession, a debarked poplar tree about ten metres tall is carried as a banner. Carnival customs also include an older group representing a wedding procession, with the characters Dida and Baba.

These customs offer a distinct way to experience local culture, alongside historic buildings and archaeological sites. In Gornje Ogorje stands the Muslin building, a protected residential and farm building dating from the mid-19th century, partly built into a slope. Also in Gornje Ogorje is Počivala, an ethnographic site associated with an old local burial custom: on the way to the cemetery, the procession would stop there. The site served several hamlets together as a resting place during funeral processions.

Churches, fortress remains and archaeological sites

Near Bračević, in Kapelica, are the remains of a medieval tower and residential buildings belonging to Brečevo Fortress. Brečevo controlled the old Roman road Via Gabiniana and was an important strategic point in the Dalmatian Zagora. The Church of Sv. Ivan Krstitelj in Ramljane was built in 1726; despite several renovations, it retains Baroque features. The Church of Svih Svetih in Bračević, also called Zlopolje, was built around 1757. Its present appearance dates from the 1825 renovation; despite later renovations, it retains a distinctly Baroque style.

The Church of Sv. Mihovil in Kmeti, in Donji Muć, preserves Gothic elements and is considered one of the older religious buildings in the Dalmatian Zagora. In Gornji Muć is an archaeological site with the pre-Romanesque Church of Sv. Petar, dating from the 9th century. The site is also associated with the beginnings of national medieval archaeology.

Mala Pećina is near Sutina. The cave consists of three chambers and contains archaeological pottery fragments. It is considered a valuable early Neolithic site on the eastern Adriatic coast. Impresso pottery indicates use between 6100 and 5500 BC. Local heritage thus encompasses evidence from prehistory as well as churches, fortress remains and customs that are still part of the cultural landscape of the Muć area.
