Discover Koretinec: Landscape and Traditions
Accommodation in Koretinec
Koretinec is shaped by a varied landscape and regional cultural traditions. If you are considering the village as a travel destination, its hilly landscape, historic parks and festive events offer different points of interest. When planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish enduring landscape features from individual, dated events.
Landscape and settlement pattern
Koretinec stretches from valuable agricultural lowland across slopes to the Plitvica River. Forest borders the village to the southwest, while valuable agricultural land lies to the northeast. This means that a forested side and an agriculturally defined side face one another. A ridge facing south runs along the Koretinec–Čalinec road. It lies in front of a forest and offers views.
Koretinec developed along two parallel roads, with cross streets connecting them. An old rural route passes through Maruševec, Čalinec, Koretinec, Ladanje Donje and Ladanje Gornje, then descends near the Opeka Arboretum to the Greda–Vinica road. While the parallel roads describe the settlement’s layout, the route places Koretinec within a wider rural context.
Parks in the surrounding area
Near Koretinec, the Opeka Arboretum is protected as a monument of park architecture and as an arboretum. It is also considered a year-round tourist destination. Its protected park architecture and tourist status make the arboretum a prominent point of interest for those interested in gardens.
Bajnski dvori Castle lies between Gornje Ladanje and Donje Ladanje on the slope of Borovlje Hill, surrounded by a large park. The park is currently neglected. Maruševec Castle is also nearby; it dates to 1618 and has a tower from the 19th century. It is associated with a historic English-style park: the surviving areas are protected as a horticultural monument, and some old coniferous and deciduous trees have been preserved. By comparison, the current condition of the park at Bajnski dvori should be taken into account; at Maruševec, the focus is on the protection of the surviving areas and the old trees.
Traditions and events
Jurjevo includes the tradition of Jure Zeleni. In it, a figure portrayed by a young man is dressed in green birch branches and accompanied by young men. KUD “KLARUŠ” from Maruševec continues this tradition today.
A celebration with a festive Mass, held mainly outdoors, takes place every year on August 16 at the Chapel of St. Roch in Druškovac. If you would like to plan your trip around this date, check the latest program details, as they may vary.
The 23rd Folklore Days in Maruševec on April 25, 2026, featured KUD Uljanik Pula, KUD Seljačka sloga Kupinec and KUD Klaruš Maruševec. The 2026 Jurjevo program included lighting a bonfire at Lončaričuv brijeg and a procession through Koretinec. These examples represent different formats: several groups performed at the Folklore Days, while the Jurjevo program included a procession and a bonfire.
At Čiselska nedela 2024, visitors could sample traditional dishes, sweets, natural liqueurs, juices and other natural products, as well as buy unique handicrafts. The Šarena kućica craft workshop from Koretinec also exhibited there. Unlike the religious and folklore events, this event combined tastings with crafts.
