The Municipality of Jakšić can be explored through several historical and landscape themes: a medieval settlement, a cultural monument in the town of Jakšić, archaeological sites, and a lowland landscape shaped by agriculture. When planning your trip, you can focus on the history of its buildings and settlements or explore the different archaeological periods. The region’s location also provides clear points of reference.

Jakšić and the Church of Saint Barbara

Jakšić lies on the site of the medieval settlement of Sveti Đurađ. The town is home to the Church of Saint Barbara, a cultural monument. It was built in 1720 with Neo-Gothic elements and expanded in 1910. Restoration work was also carried out in 1910. These dates mark two distinct building phases: the original construction and the changes made at the beginning of the 20th century.

The church can thus be placed within a longer history of the area that reaches back to the medieval settlement of Sveti Đurađ. Those especially interested in architectural history will find specific dates and a named architectural style here, rather than just a general historical connection.

Archaeological traces from different periods

The archaeological sites also represent different periods. The Čaire site in Jakšić is a protected immovable individual cultural monument. Sastavke contains remains of settlements from the Late Iron Age and the Late Middle Ages. The two dates show just how far apart the historical periods represented at this site are.

At Tekić, Treštanovačka Gradina contains the remains of a Roman villa rustica and baths. They date from the beginning of the 2nd century to the end of the 4th century; numerous finds from Late Antiquity were also discovered there. The technical term villa rustica refers to a rural Roman estate; the baths add a bathing complex to the archaeological findings.

Another early trace lies near Rajsavac: pottery sherds from the Lasinja culture, dating from 1950 to 1750 BC, were found at the Zelena Laguna fishpond. Taken together, the periods mentioned range from prehistoric finds through Roman times to medieval settlements. This allows you to distinguish the archaeological themes by period rather than viewing them as a single historical layer.

Landscape and regional orientation

The municipality is a lowland plain shaped by agriculture, with valleys, fields, and forests. This landscape offers a different perspective from the individual churches and archaeological sites: it describes the character of the municipal area, while the archaeological and architectural remains provide specific historical points of reference.

The municipal center of Jakšić is located on the Požega–Našice road, seven kilometers from the county seat of Požega. Jakšić also belongs to the Požega–Pleternica wine-growing region. The municipality can therefore be placed in context both by its position within the regional road network and by its designation as part of a named wine-growing region.

The announced program for “Pjesmom u jesen”

The “Pjesmom u jesen” event was announced for September 11–13, 2026, in Jakšić. It was to be organized by HKUD “Slavonija” Jakšić. The planned program included a folklore parade through Jakšić featuring folklore groups, horse-drawn carriages, and riders. The 15th Children’s Folklore Showcase and the third Tambura Evening were also planned.

The tenth Jakšić fishing event, “Fišijada,” was also planned as part of the program. These details refer to the announced September 2026 edition; they show which folklore, music, and fishing-related events were planned for that date.

Context within Požega-Slavonia County

The wider county of Požega-Slavonia consists of two geographically separate areas: the Požega basin and the Pakrac-Lipik area. This division provides a framework for regional orientation. By contrast, the churches, archaeological sites, and landscape features mentioned above relate specifically to the Municipality of Jakšić.
