Žnjidarići: Discover cycling and hiking trails
Accommodation in Žnjidarići
Žnjidarići is an interesting point on several cycling and hiking routes. The official Aphrodisiac Trail passes through the village as a challenging cycling route; the From Spring to Spring route includes Žnjidarići on its Zrenj loop. Trail 261 adds a moderate route with a stated duration to the selection. When planning your trip, the options therefore differ not only by activity but also by distance, surface and time required.
Cycling on the Aphrodisiac Trail
The official Aphrodisiac Trail is 34 km long and rated difficult; 27.2 km of the route is on macadam. The route reaches Žnjidarići from Istarske Toplice via a 4.5 km climb. Total distance, surface and climb are distinct planning factors that you can consider separately when choosing a route. From Žnjidarići, the trail continues via Poli, Medici, Vižintini and Laganiši to Sv. Lucija. Before setting out, it is advisable to check current trail conditions and markings.
A comparison with Trail 261 highlights the difference between the routes: the Aphrodisiac Trail is a 34 km cycling route rated difficult, while Trail 261 is a 14.1 km moderate hiking route with a duration of three to four hours.
Hiking routes and trail paths
From Spring to Spring passes through Žnjidarići on the Zrenj loop. From there, the trail continues along an unpaved path to Čabrnica before returning to Zrenj. After passing Toplice–Oprtalj–Toplice Vižintini, Trail 261 turns east towards Žnjidarići. At a bend beside the village, it meets the road to Istarske Toplice. The Istrian Mountain Trail (IPP) can be extended via an unmarked descent through Žnjidarići to Istarske Toplice.
The trails also differ in their destinations: From Spring to Spring returns to Zrenj, the described IPP variant leads to Istarske Toplice, and Trail 261 is named Toplice–Oprtalj–Toplice.
Istarske Toplice: springs and history
Istarske Toplice is a spa in the Mirna Valley, whose thermal springs have been known since antiquity. The spring of St. Stephen rises beneath a rock about 85 metres high; the ruins of an old church dedicated to St. Stephen stand on the rock above the spring. Here, the rock connects natural and historical features: the spring lies below, and the church ruins above. Trail 261 also offers a detour to the galleries of the old quarry. In autumn, truffle hunters can be seen in the wooded area of Istarske Toplice.
