Krancici: Cycling Routes, Tastings and Cultural Heritage

If you would like to combine cycling, regional produce and a rural cultural landscape, Krancici offers several specific points of interest. The Stari Rimski Put cycling route passes through Krančići; tastings at the Natura Camp Karli farm are also among the local offerings. Further hiking, culinary and cultural experiences can be found in the municipality of Kaštelir-Labinci; some destinations are in the nearby area.

Cycling routes with different themes

The Stari Rimski Put cycling route passes through Krančići and partly follows the course of the historic Roman road Via Flavia. The historic connection therefore applies to only part of the route. Nearby, the Staza Šparoga route passes through an area known for wild asparagus. When choosing a route, you can distinguish between the historic road through the village and the surrounding landscape known for wild asparagus.

Hiking trails and viewpoints

In the Kaštelir-Labinci area, hiking trails follow forest paths, pass through olive groves and vineyards, and offer views of the surrounding hills. Shorter and easier routes are suitable for less-trained recreational walkers and families with children. One specific destination along Trail 512 Dva mlina is a small bridge over the old riverbed of the Mirna. Two old mills are nearby and gave the trail its name.

Nearby is Sabadin, an uninhabited excursion spot at 170 metres above sea level with spectacular views. Vrbanovica lies north of and above the Mirna Valley. This excursion and memorial site is popular with cyclists and walkers because of the Poreština cycling routes. These spots complement the hiking trails in the municipality with additional landscape and excursion options.

Regional produce and tastings

Natura Camp Karli in Krančići offers farm tastings of wine, olive oil, honey and other products. Wine, potatoes, olive oil, honey and vegetables are known as regional products in the municipality of Kaštelir-Labinci; some wine cellars are marked on maps of the Istrian County wine roads. The summer Friday Tasting takes place in front of Butiga in the centre of Kaštelir: on Fridays in July and August from 7 p.m., you can sample olive oil, wine, schnapps and craft beer from local producers there for free. Two family-run businesses from Kaštelir and Labinci introduce themselves at each event.

The guided Gourm-E Bike cycling and culinary tour offers a different kind of experience. In July and August, on Mondays, it visits local family-run businesses in the Kaštelir-Labinci area and the Butiga shop with local products; homemade specialities are sampled at the stops. The main difference between the formats is their setting: a summer tasting event in front of Butiga or a guided cycling tour with visits to producers.

Individual producers also offer their own tastings. OPG Matković invites visitors to sample specialities made from vegetables grown outdoors, such as šalša, peperonata and jam. Seasonal vegetables and processed products are sold at the stand at Mekiši 5. Istarska Kapljica produces cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil from olives grown in its own groves; visitors can arrange a tasting appointment. Culture and seasonal events

In Kaštelir, the parish church of SS Cosmas and Damian was built in 1908 on the site of a smaller earlier church and a cemetery. The three-nave religious building includes a sanctuary and a sacristy. The Ethnographic Museum opened on 16 August 2026. The exhibits conveyed an impression of how people in this region lived in the past.

At Kuzminje, traditional dishes are prepared live. The festival also includes a church procession in honour of Saints Cosmas and Damian, the patron saints of Kaštelir, as well as competitions to prepare specialities. Gramperijada takes place in the centre of Kaštelir. It includes competitions for children and adults, sporting events and music; creative potato dishes and products from local family-run businesses are also available.
