Those considering Pisarovina as a destination can plan their stay around cycling routes, historic sites or seasonal events. For a cycling trip, on the other hand, the choice of route determines the focus.

Cycling and Pilgrimage

The “Mini hodočašće biciklom” cycling pilgrimage route starts in Pisarovina and is about 20 kilometres long. It connects the centre with the Kupa River and is considered suitable for all age groups because of its low difficulty level. The route, surface and difficulty level may change.

The Karta 8 cycling route is laid out differently: it starts at a car park in the centre of Pisarovina and returns there. Along the way, it passes through rural landscapes and forest trails and by wooden chapels. Pisarovina also has a map of the surrounding cycling routes and a bicycle service station. Check whether the service station is available before setting off.

In Općina Pisarovina, the Brown Route passes through Donja Kupčina, Pisarovina, Dvoranci, Skenderi and Gradec Pokupski, crossing part of the municipality. It is suitable for leisurely rides through hilly landscapes; route conditions may change. If you prefer to travel on foot, you can take the “Hodočašće šumskim brežuljcima” pilgrimage route: its return leg to Pisarovina is about four kilometres long. Refreshments and lunch are available there.

Wooden Chapels, Church and Museum

The wooden Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity in Dvoranci dates from the second half of the 18th century and was restored in the 19th century. It preserves the original altars and altar ornaments from the time it was built; some of the façade carvings have also survived. Features of the altar figures and carvings point to one of the folk woodcarving workshops of Turopolje.

The Chapel of St Vitus stands in Podgorje JamniÄŤko on a hill above Pisarovina, surrounded by forest. It preserves part of the main altar dating from 1726. The Church of St Martin the Bishop in Jamnica Pisarovinska also stands on a hill above Pisarovina, with views of nearby settlements.

The Donja Kupčina Heritage Museum comprises a complex of wooden homes and outbuildings, as well as ethnographic objects of cultural and historical value. Its educational programmes and workshops explore local heritage, annual customs and traditional crafts. In Općina Pisarovina, the Donja Kupčina Heritage Museum is also Croatia’s second-largest open-air museum.

Events and Other Places to Visit

At a tasting event in October on Trg Stjepana Radića in Pisarovina, you can sample honey, pumpkin seed oil, cheese, sweets, preserves and other locally made products. The annual programme may change; check the dates for your year of travel.

The Kupa Evenings take place in mid-July in the natural surroundings of the Kupa River. The programme includes rowing competitions in Kupa boats, sporting events, performances by folk groups, music, and products from local farms and craft businesses. The annual dates and programme may vary.

The nearby Krašograd Eco-Park in Bratina has two lakes with a promenade, children’s playgrounds, sports grounds and a small zoo. As individual facilities may change, check the details before your visit. This gives you a clear choice when planning your trip: routes and heritage provide an active or historical focus, while seasonal events may influence your travel dates.
