Ćelije
Accommodation in Ćelije
Ćelije’s history can be explored through the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus; its geographical and cultural context broadens to encompass the wider destination of Trpinja. When planning a stay, two levels should therefore be distinguished: the local history of the church and the broader architectural, landscape and event-related themes of the Municipality of Trpinja. The foundation stone of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was blessed on 11 August. After the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was returned to the parish after 15 years, it was brought to the new church in Ćelije on 17 November.

Within the wider destination of Trpinja, the Municipality of Trpinja is located in the historical region of Slavonia, in the northwest of Vukovar-Srijem County and 14 kilometres north of Vukovar. It lies along the Vukovar–Osijek and Vukovar–Vinkovci transport corridors. The municipal area is part of the typical Pannonian lowlands and has a temperate continental climate. The Vuka flows for eight kilometres through the Municipality of Trpinja; the Bobotski Canal extends for 20 kilometres within it.
The Natura 2000 site HR2001045 Trpinja is also part of the region’s natural and cultural heritage. It covers 5.1567 hectares and is designated for species and habitat types. The Pašnjak pod selom archaeological site lies in the bed of the Vuka south of the centre of Bršadin and is designated as an immovable cultural asset. Thus, the Trpinja destination brings together a protected-area classification and an archaeological site as distinct regional points of reference.
Churches and culture in the region
Bobota is home to Crkva Velikomučenika Georgija, built in 1789 and designated as an immovable cultural asset. Another historic church is in the village of Trpinja: Crkva Vaznesenja Gospodnjeg was built in 1755 in the Late Baroque style. It is a single-nave building with a semicircular apse and a bell tower that projects like a risalit from the main façade. From a cultural and historical perspective, you can compare the 1789 construction date of the church in Bobota with the Late Baroque architectural features of the church in Trpinja.
Events in the wider destination of Trpinja also encompass a range of cultural formats. The 2020 municipal strategy noted that the cultural and artistic association “Đoko Patković” had held the three-day Međunarodni Vidovdanski sabor in Bobota every June since 1981.
