Drenovci’s cultural offerings range from a museum and literature to folklore and the ecclesiastical history of Cvelferija. If you are looking for a hotel for a culture-focused stay, these themes can shape your trip.

Museum and Cvelferija

The Muzej Cvelferije is located in Drenovci and introduces the public to tangible and intangible cultural heritage through exhibitions. Its virtual offerings include a workshop on reconstructing a ponjavica for Federsic and a virtual 3D tour of the exhibition “Dvanaest boja Cvelferije.” The two formats have different focuses: the workshop is about reconstructing a ponjavica for Federsic, while the tour takes visitors through an exhibition. This places a workshop with a clearly defined theme alongside a digital exhibition tour.

Literature and Folklore

At the Pjesnički susreti in Drenovci, renowned poets and members of the Croatian Writers’ Association from Croatia and neighboring countries appear alongside young, not-yet-established authors from Slavonia. The 36th edition also included an exhibition of poets’ first published works. The gatherings thus bring together different literary perspectives: established names and young authors from the region alongside poets from Croatia and neighboring countries.

The folklore and cultural event “Raspjevana Cvelferija” was first held in Drenovci in 1990. It is dedicated to preserving and promoting the traditions, customs and dances of Cvelferija. Cultural and arts associations from the villages of Cvelferija take part, as do guests from other parts of Croatia and from abroad. Unlike the literary gatherings, the focus here is on regional customs and dances, with participants coming both from the villages of Cvelferija and from outside the area.

Ecclesiastical History and Historical Events

The Parish Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Drenovci dates from 1797. The Noć muzeja also has an ecclesiastical history connection: it has been held regularly in Drenovci since 2013. The 2020 edition focused on 300 years of continuous church activity in Cvelferija. Liturgical vestments and church objects from most of the parishes of Cvelferija were exhibited, including vestments from the Parish of St. Michael the Archangel in Drenovci. The programs thus bring together the history of a specific parish church and a broader look at the churches of Cvelferija.

Another historical example is the procession “Čuvali smo granicu na Savi”: on October 20, 2024, the Muzej Cvelferije held its sixth edition in Drenovci, a military and border-history procession in the courtyard of the successor to the Brkić family. The date and sixth edition mark this program as a specific event in 2024.

Regional Orientation

The Svetište Majke dobre nade – Šumanovci shrine is located in the LAG Šumanovci area. It is described as the oldest shrine in Vukovar-Srijem County. The area also has numerous churches and cemeteries of historical and cultural significance; some are protected as immovable cultural heritage.

For geographic context, Drenovci lies on the Spačva–Brčko road and near the Vinkovci–Gunja–Brčko railway line; Brčko is in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Road and rail connections situate the town within the region, while its museum, literature, folklore and ecclesiastical history suggest a possible cultural focus for your stay.
