Klada combines coastal views with paths through nature and a nearby mountain setting. In Donja Klada, a small waterfront area, views of the islands, and secluded natural beaches and coves shape the stay. For walks, Klada offers paths through almost untouched nature, as well as named routes with different features. Nearby Zavižan is part of the surrounding area, with its high elevation, mountain lodge, weather station, and botanical garden. You can tailor your stay to the landscape you want to experience: waterfront and islands, a path by the sea, or a marked hiking trail.

Coast and Waterfront in Donja Klada

You can reach Donja Klada via a steep turnoff from the Adriatic coastal road. At the small waterfront, you can enjoy views of sunsets and islands. If you are considering Klada for its coastal scenery, these views are a particular highlight: the water, islands, and evening sky shape the impression of the waterfront area.

Donja Klada also has secluded natural beaches and coves. This makes for a simple distinction when planning your trip: the waterfront is all about island views and sunsets, while the beaches and coves offer a secluded natural coastline. This lets you distinguish between different coastal experiences without reducing them to a single beach scene.

There is a chapel on the main waterfront in Donja Klada. If you want to see it specifically, check its condition on site.

Walks and Hiking Routes

Klada offers paths through almost untouched nature where you can go for a walk. There are also two specific routes, each with different features. The Gornja Klada–Zavižan hiking trail begins beside a chapel in Gornja Klada and continues as a marked, well-maintained path. Conditions on the route may change, so check them before setting out.

The Starigrad–Donja Klada route is a maintained path by the sea with educational information boards. On this tour, the coastline and information boards are the main features; the Gornja Klada–Zavižan trail is distinguished by its starting point beside a chapel and its markings. If you want to walk by the sea and see educational information boards along the way, consider the first route. The second route is the appropriate guide for a marked hike in the direction of Zavižan.

The two named routes differ not only in their starting and ending points: the Starigrad–Donja Klada path is described as a route by the sea, while the path from Gornja Klada continues as a marked, well-maintained hiking trail. These details help you assess the kind of tour you want before setting out.

Zavižan and the Velebit Botanical Garden

Nearby Zavižan is 1,594 metres above sea level. Croatia's oldest high-altitude weather station is located there; it was established in 1953. In addition to its high elevation, the weather station is a specific point of scientific interest in this part of the surrounding area.

The history of the mountain lodge's construction is also linked to an older building: Zavižan Mountain Lodge was built on the foundations of Krajačeva kuća, which was built in 1927. The year refers to this house; the lodge itself stands on its foundations. Thus, elevation, weather observation, and building history emerge as distinct aspects of Zavižan.

The Velebit Botanical Garden was established in 1967. It is about a 15-minute walk from Zavižan Mountain Lodge. Allow around 15 minutes for the walk. Along with the high-altitude weather station, the garden adds another natural-history focus to nearby Zavižan: the area is not only notable for its high elevation, but also for weather observation and botany.
